Then the Duke in "The Sands of Iwo Jima." Probably my favorite. |

Not exactly the most action packed film, but It did capture some of the ugliness of the pacific campaign. I found it to be similar to parts/moments/despair of the book "Flag of our Fathers." Gotta love "Heavan knows Mr. Allison." My favorite is "Tora Tora Tora." |

Please anyone who watched "Thin Red Line", read the book. If the author was still alive, he would have shot the director over what he did to one of the best WWII novels.

I think the David Bowie movie had some sort of New Age homosexual theme behind it.
While definitely not the best movie ever made, I always liked “The Long and the Short and the Tall” aka: “Jungle Fighters” (British, 1961). It certainly presents an unromantic view of war. Unfortunately, it is a bit talky. Re: about Hollywood messing up a good novel, what about “The Naked and the Dead”? I visited the real bridge over the River Kwai in the late 60’s. That’s when I started to realize that moviemakers don’t care about accuracy, they just want to make an appealing movie that will make them money! |

If you liked Ran get a copy of Heaven and Earth(Japanese name:Ten to Chi to) Has the largest battle scenes I have ever seen in a movie. Its about two warlords fighting, one to protect the Shogun, the other to dispose. Part that cracked me up is one of the maiden warriors from the opposing armies was challenging the other Warlord to fight her in battle. As she keeps taunting him he picks up a musket and blows her off her horse. |
