Have always been a fan of the MP-38/40, the famous German SMG.  I've seen lots of pictures of them, and wonder if anyone knows who they were normally assigned/issued to.  Certainly the paratroopers did, but who else?

NOTES:

1. There was lack of SMG's in the beginning of war. In Poland all group
leaders were armed with Rifles. In 1941 most were armed with SMG's. All
platoon leaders had SMG's in France 1940. MPi 18 Bergmann was in use in
Poland but MPi 38 and MPi 40 were increasingly in use later.

2. LMG is MG34. MG42 is in use from 1942 onwards.

3. Rifle is Gewehr 98 k but from 1942 onwards Gewehr 41 may be used.
Sniper Rifle is accurised G98 k with scope.

4. In Poland all platoons had 3 groups. In 1940 onwards platoons had three
or four groups. Some motorized units had platoons with 3 groups and each
group being armed with 1 or 2 LMG's.

5. Pistols are P08 (Parabellum). The 7.65mm Walther was issued only to
higher ranking officers. P38 came into use together with P08 later in war.
