Most people aren't aware that some of Hollywood's elite answer the call to arms. Jimmy Stewart is a veteran of more than one war, serving in WWII through Vietnam.
Here's a pic that my Dad shot of Stewart (center) outside the O-Club at Andersen AFB, Guam (circa 1966). Stewart flew a B-52 mission with my Dad's squadron, although not on his crew.  Edited to correct error. Thanks Oly!

I read somewhere once that when he came back after the war, Hollywood wanted to publicize him as a 'war hero' because of his work during the war. Jimmy absolutely refused this, and threatened to quit if they even mentioned his record.
Not many people would be so firm on downplaying their contribution these days. Now that's someone I wish we had to lead these days. |

Men like Jimmy Stewart and Charlton Heston are hard to come buy these days..................We truly have big shoes to fill !!

General Stewart was the Real Deal.
Contrast that with those types who go around waving their "War Hero Flag." A real hero doesn't publicize his record. |
