I'm working on making a shadow box for my grandfather's naval dress uniform, but I need some help with what insignia go where.  Does anyone have a picture to help me out.  His rank was captain.  Thanks in advance!

See the following link to the Navy regulation for order of precedence of Navy awards.  Chapter 3 has pictures of the many, many, MANY Navy uniforms.  Another attachment has the order of precedence of other (non-Navy) awards.  It does require Acrobat Reader to view.

Hope this helps.  Please thank your grandfather on my behalf for his service to this great Nation!

I was hesitant to give any advice due to the numerous uniform changes the Navy underwent in the past 100 years (FYI that's about twice as long as the Air Force has been in existance. They're probably still on their first set of uniform regs. Nice baby blues BTW). What might be right now was different in WWII.

So the first question to ask is how long ago was your grandfather in the Navy?

I believe he got out in 1945.

Besides being a captain what type of officer was he (ie ship driver, pilot, submariner, staff officer, etc)?

The order for the ribbons shouldn't have changed. The uniform insignia might.
