If I weld up all the slots in a bird cage making it inoperable then weld it on, would this pass as a barrel extension. Would it still be considered a grenade launcher due to diameter. I know I dont need it but it looks so nice

Yes, I believe it would.  Post-ban brakes have to be substantially larger or smaller than 22 mm.

Bushmaster has a decent selection of pre- and post-ban legal brakes.  I'm considering the AK47 style brake, which is available in both pre- and post-ban.

Devices that have received BATF approval (i.e., are not considered to count as a grenade launcher) have been either 24mm or more, or 20mm or less, in diameter.
