Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - What defines a stock?

Hey guys,
  Just another curiousty question. What Makes a stock a stock? Could I have a 16" bbl carbine with just the buffer tube? What if I added a butplate to the end of the tube? I have no real reason for doing so, but would just like to know if I can or not. Thanks.

A stock is anything that allows the weapon to be shouldered for firing.
