If I sell an AK-47 and ship it to another state do I have to send it to an FFL dealer or can I send directly to an individual?  Sorry for the dumb question, better safe than sorry.

Incorrect.

You have to send it TO an FFL.  But you can send it yourself.  There is no federal requirement that says only an FFL holder can SHIP a firearm.  Only an FFL holder can RECEIVE a firearm.

Gloftoe has it right.

But, make sure everyone you are dealing with understands the law including the receiving FFL.
