I'm confused, do they only ban the "named" rifles, or all with evil features?

The CT AWB only defines an AW as a select fire full auto or one of the semi-autos SPECIFICALLY named on the list found on the CSP Firearms Unit website. The only AR's banned in CT are, ironically, Colt made AR's.

The most vague area is "AK47-type", which they have further amended to mean any weapon with which major parts are interchangable. So my Valmet .223 is okay, but one in 7.62x39mm is prohibited.
