Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Gun registration?

If a firearm (legal length shotgun) is purchased through a private sale (re: not through a dealer) am I required to register the gun with the local authorities (I live in the Chicago suburbs)?  Anyone know?

It's probably going to depend on exactly where you live.  I'd ask this question in the Hometown forums, where folks in your area will know the answer.
