Moving to alaska naxt month is it legal to transport hi cap mags thru canada or should i just ship them to my self

Laws in Canada say 5 rounders for rifles and 10 rounders for pistols you might be better off just shipping them so you dont have to deal with Customs.

Like Sixgun357 wrote, I wouldn't risk it.  I moved to the U.S. from Canada about 12 years ago and visit a lot.  Canadian Customs would love to get their greasy fingers all over those mags.  If you value your rifles/handguns, I would ship those too.  You can get a permit at the border to bring declared 'hunting' rifles (bolts) and shotguns into the country (50$CAN), but if you brought in an AR, at the least it would be lost forever.  What was one of the reasons I moved to the U.S.  Oh, now I remember . . .

I read about that exact same scenario somewhere.From what I read:At the border they will ask you to declare all your guns,then they will take custody of the guns WHILE YOU ARE TRAVELING THRUOGH THEIR COUNTRY,then when you reach the Alaskan border,they will return your guns to you.SO,I would take the precaution of packing all my guns together and in the rear of the truck,make sure to get a signed,detailed list of what they take (posession of),OR already have a detailed list!That way none of them could mysteriously dissapear!  

Good luck. I must say that the strip searches are not that bad though. I would make darn sure of what you need to do before setting out. I hate going to canada, everything changes to Kilo-meters, and their king has no idea what is going on. Darn socialists.

It's been a few years since I tried to transport a firearm through Canada but this was not my experience.  Up until about 1980-ish, Canadian customs would seal firearms in a tamper proof plastic bag.  At the opposing border, they would unseal the firearms and you were on your merry way.  However, in 1980 I had turn back and drive to the post office just inside the Alaskan border and mail my M1 carbine to my grandparents.  (FFL was available for shipping because this is a common occurance.)  I had to do this because, according to the custom's agent, they no longer allowed transportation of any firearm that wasn't approved for possession in Canada.  

Even though I made several trips back and forth between Alaska and "the states" through the 90's, I didn't bother trying to transport any of my guns.  Was just easier to ship them.  

Check this out.  My buddy does custom cycles.  One year after Sturgis he heads up into Canada.  I don't remember why.  He is driving an RV.  Somewhere up front, near the drivers seat or somewhere, there is a mount to hold a shotgun.  The gun is NOT in the RV because he knew he was going in to Canada, so he left it and all gun related itmes at home.

The canucks see the mount, the conversation begins, where is the gun. At home.  Where is home?  Are you sure it is not in the RV?  Blah blah blah, Gun mount equals gun runner, they tear that RV apart looking for guns.  Found nothing.

If I were you, when you drive across the border, all I would have on the dash of your car/truck is a bible and a few beaver pelts to trade with!
