debate class was at my house this evening!!
how can i tell if a hammer in my rifle
is m16 or ar15? i now have my first ar
and have had three people tell me 2 two
things.
twice people have told me it is m16
and one friend told me ar15
i also would like 2 know if
it is m16 for some reason, can it
stay in the gun?
or do i need 2 get rid of it and
buy the correct hammer?
if it is m16 and i can keep it
in my rifle with no troubles will
it damage my rifle?
thanks much

This shows photos of M16 VS AR15 hammer:

http://www.ar15.com/articles/article.html?article=31

First ATF said you can't have an unregistered machinegun. Then they said that some AR15's with M16 parts will fire full-auto. Then they said that every AR15 with any M16 parts is illegal, whether it fires full-auto or not. ATF is insane. You cannot have M16 hammer in AR15.

As far as functioning, I don't know whether M16 hammer would damage AR15.
