Hearing the reports on the news about DC's snow storm made me think about the crap the Trans-Labrador Highway up in Canada gets.

That shit would lower the population around here pretty fast. Donner Parties left and right.

Could be a form of "plow by braile" like the guys up on Government Camp do here in Oregon. They run their plow blade against the guard rail and let it guide them in area's they can't see. I didn't see a rail in those pics, but there could be some curb or the driver might have a feel for the shoulder. You would be suprised how you learn to feel things through your plow blade or other equipment.

I saw a show a while back (not ice road truckers) with plow drivers trying to clear alaskan roads. said they have some pretty accurate GPSs and go slow.

Ugh, can't find the picture online.

Book named Alaska's Wolf Man, has a picture from 1917, of a crew of men clearing a 25 foot snowdrift, with shovels. They also have wood planks laid over a stream that they are working over. That is impressive.

Here are some BNSF rail snow plow shots from back in January

"These photos were taken on the Bellwood Subdivision, between Seward and David City, Nebraska on the BNSF. Seward is about 25 miles west of Lincoln, on the Ravenna Sub. A few blizzards and sub zero temperatures coupled with moderate winds made for a beautiful, but flash frozen environment. A train was snowed in at David City and a rotary snow plow was sent to clear the track of drifts that varied from 6ft or less up to 12ft in spots! The photos were taken on Jan. 8th through Jan. 10th.

I assume that the snow is so compacted and frozen together that there is no danger of a mini avalance or collapse engulfing a car? Reminds me of being in a trench excavation with no shoring or trenchbox.....scary

PUSSY, I have never been in a ditch WITH a trench box,

And Ive been in some deep trenches before, but there are only a few people out there that I will get in their ditches with no box.
