The last three years for gas and electric have averaged about 160.00 a month.This is a house where three of the four people dont know how to turn off a light.I have become my father.I have hot water heat 1937 circa house.Replaced the windows[27] and thats about it.After we add on I was going to add a outside woodburner for the hot water heat.Was also thinking of using my well for geo-themal cooling.

Heat only, runs about $2000.00 a year. My house is well insulated. Just f@%king cold!!

I heat with a lump coal stove and happen to get free coal every month from work. The only cost to heating would be the blower fan to which it may add a dollar or two to the utility bill. This is in Wyoming where it gets down below zero.

If you live in a cold winter area and heat with gas you need to get a 90+ efficiency furnace. The savings are substantial and the comfort is also. They are expensive up front but worth it. Put some money into attic insulation or new windows also.
Get prices from at least three contractors before you buy. |

I'm with ARgon. We live in MA and this has been a very mild winter. Heating has been around 2000.00 and always about 150.00 - 175.00 for electric. I have six bedrooms to heat and two large living rooms where we spend a lot of time. Our bills last year were way higher.

I just purchased my home in October. So far my highest heating/electric bill was $98. I use natural gas for heating. The house has newer windows and blown insulation in the attic. It is only a 660 square foot house (not including the unfinished basement) built in 1934.
My costs would be cheaper at this point but I sucked into a marketing scam by Energy America, a supplier of Natural Gas. These pukes told me I could save money by signing a contract with them to buy gas. What they didn't tell me was that my delivery costs would go up, ya see, Consumers Energy owns all the lines. Not only are Energy America's price per unit higher than Consumers, now I am stuck with higher delivery costs as well. Damnit. [b]DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH ENERGY AMERICA![/b] |
