When I was back there, in undergraduate school, we were not exposed to the enlightened and advanced technologies of other cultures. Oh how I rue those days, and if I could turn back the hands of time, Obama willing, I would hurl my shoes at my Engineering perfessers for this transgression against sensitivity and understanding.

So in order to right this grevious wrong, I have decided it is time to widen my horizons and understand the wisdom of Middle Eastern technology and seek this elusive knowledge.

So how about it? What's the secret behind the HoverRug?

Serious replies only.

Magic dust. You take enough, you fly (carpet is optional). Just go downtown and ask around, someone will sell you some.

Wind.  Lots of wind.  Did you see the movie Hidalgo?  There is a scene in which the wind comes up and if someone were sitting on a carpet in that storm, they would likely be taken to the sky.  Think of a tornado on its side. That kind of wind!

ETA.  This is a serious reply.

So if you were using a flying broom to dust off the flying carpet in-flight, it could be like attitude adjustment thrusters, and you could make that sucker yaw like Shabadoo in 'Driftin 2, Electric Boogaloo'?

Same way Hay-seuss walked on water m or Mo-sez parted the Red Sea.  Their enlightened state of mind combined with their higher spiritual being enabled them to do it.

Does Boeing have a carpet in the works?

Will it be a synthetic polyester, as Boeing is gaining experience with the 787?

Will they be made in Everett, Renton, Long Beach, St. Louis or South Carolina?  China maybe?

Timeline?

Synthetic fibers will not work.

It is the special capacity for silk and wool to hold static electricity that allow the flying to be possible.
