Got a question about a gun safe installation:

My "basement" really isn't a basement at all.  Our house is built on a slope, and the bottom room (basement) is only below ground on one side.  On that side, there is a door, that opens up to a crawl space under the house.  What I was thinking about doing, was adding a door to that wall, pouring a concrete slab behind that door, and then installing the safe in the crawl space, behind the new door (that way it would be out of sight, and still bolted to a concrete slab.  What do you think of this idea?  Stupid?  Too much work?  I'm looking for some good advice.  Thanks!

(Hope this isn't too confusing, the description is a bit difficult for me to articulate)

Don't people have gun safes in their garages?  Wouldn't that be kind of the same thing?  I know it always stays cool in the crawlspace (even in the summertime) and as long as I have either some dessicant or a goldenrod in the safe, I figured it would be okay.  More opinions, please!  

Oh, and this is just to lock up the various hunting guns (rifles, shotguns, etc) that I have.  I'll be keeping my home defense stuff upstairs in the bedroom, probably in something like this:
