I posted the info only to let CAV arms know their reputation amoung LE agencies is being damaged by their association with this company. In the post 911 world it was short sited of Arizona Precision Mold to hand out a non detectabkle knife to trade show attendies who were most likely [b]flying[/b] home. Personally I think the biggest "risk" of these knives is their overall substandard quality (when compared to the CIA letter opener) will result in many of them being thrown away where they will be recovered by the dumpster diving dregs of society. |

Are these plastic knives have serated sections running the whole length each side of the blade?
I remember back at the last show in Ft Washingtong (THE LAST) a dealer friend of mine had this one plastic knife with a razor sharp blade. It wasn't the cheapo plastic of some of the copies, had some kinda glass mixed in. We couldn't really figured out what it was made of. Heh, 'Tactical Letter Opener", that'll go great with my "Tactical Copy Machine" and "Tactical Copy Machine" :D |

i was augmented for car searches on base. during morning role call we had to look at an email about this "new terrorist weapon" a plastic knife. it had to be the one sine they said a new molder was giving samples of the quality work they can produce. a guy on duty with me said he had one in the early 80's. so much for a new idea .

They are supposed to be a tax collecting agency in charge of tarrifs on alcohol, tobacco and firearms ONLY! This was my thinking as well. This should be none of their concern. So since Cav Arms also deals in firearms, I guess the ATF thinks they have jurisdiction... Also, there are MANY things that can be used to cut or jab, that are already on a plane. Look at the aluminum cans they serve! tear one of those in half, and they can cut anyone's throat. |

What the hell? I saw lots of plastic molded knives and push daggers at the last gun show I attended. They've been around forever. The recent popularity is related to the airport crackdown.
When I can get an undetectable ceramic or plastic gun and all plastic ammunition, I'll take it right on the plane with me! |

If the ATF really wanted to hassle CAV Arms they would go at them under 922(p):
(1) It shall be unlawful for any person to manufacture, import, sell, ship, deliver, possess, transfer, or receive any firearm - SNIP................. (B) any major component of which, when subjected to inspection by the types of x-ray machines commonly used at airports, does not generate an image that accurately depicts the shape of the component. Barium sulfate or other compounds may be used in the fabrication of the component. (2) For purposes of this subsection - SNIP................. (B) the term "major component" means, with respect to a firearm, the barrel, the slide or cylinder, or the frame or [red]receiver[/red] of the firearm; and SNIP................. So, does a Plastic Lower show up on an X-Ray Machine ? |

dont worry about the fire arm worry about the barrium sulfate that u have to use to make it show up in the x-ray machine.last time i heard barrium i got it in the u know what , and i think thats what there trying to do with this .

OK guys here are the facts:
1) Arizona Precision Mold and Arizona Precision Plastic are owned by Shawn Nealon's (owner of Cavalry Arms) parents. 2) APP and APM do the molding for Cavalry Arms receivers and other products 3) The "tactical letter opener" mold has been in existence since 1997 4) the tactical letter opener mold is owned by Shawn Nealon 5) Shawn Nealon's SN here is Garyowen (he served with the 7th Cavalry in the Gulf War if you were wondering) 6) The Tactical Letter Openers were handed out at SHOT Show as a promotional item 7) probably dozens of idiots tried to take them on airplanes going home from SHOT Show and set off this whole hysteria 8) Production of the Tactical Letter Opener as a promotional item by Cavalry Arms will continue (we're having a different mold shop produce them). FullAuto.com has ordered their own Tactical Letter Openers with FullAuto.com on them. |

Guys, this whole thing is actually funny as hell.
I have had the mold for the "Tactical Letter Opener" since 1997. We used to send one out for free with every order when I was part owner of ATF (Advanced Tactical Firearms LLC.). If you ordered a 1911 based product, you got a bushing wrench with our name on it, everything else, got a letter opener. We gave them out for free to every shooter who attended the 1998 “American Hand Gunner World Shoot-Off”. When we sold the company to ARMSCOR USA in 1999 we had cases of these thing sitting around. Me and my 2 partners split them up and I have been giving them away and selling them at guns shows ever since. The best part is, they didn’t sell for shit! We never made it to be a knife, it really was meant to be a letter opener! They don’t hold up like any of the purpose built “Shanks” that are for sale out there. So this brings us to here. My folks have a state of the art molding facility and we do molding for some companies you might have heard of: Robinson Armament ARMSCOR Dillon Precision TRW Glockmeister Cavalry Arms (Yea me!) Trijicon Ergo Grip/ Falcon Industries Revlon American Tool (guys who make the Vise-Grip) And many more…. I thought it would be cool if they came to the show and maybe plugged the shop some (I still pull a pay check from them for sales) so I told them have some plates made so the Bushing Wrenches and letter openers would have their names in them (People will shit-can a $2.50 color brochure, but they will hang on to a letter opener or other gizmo forever). Seemed like a great idea, when people got one of these they were told not to try and take them on the plane and you would figure that people who are Federally licensed to Buy/Sell/Make firearms would have more sense then they obviously showed (yes Tim, I mean you). If I have made myself into public enemy #1 with all of this, oh well. I got bigger fish to fry; I mean I make pink assault rifles for gods’ sake!
