Haven't been able to shoot my AR since moving to Raleigh.

Looking for suggestions on an outdoor range.

Would also like to hook up with any of you who go out on a regular basis.

- Thanks in advance

Welcome aboard!

I live in Charlotte, and travel occasionally to Raleigh on business.

Whenever possible, I stop in the Uwharrie National Forest and shoot. It's about an hour and a half from Raleigh.

Take the Outer Beltline to US-1, follow US-1 to  64 west. Stay on 64 westbound until you get to hiway 109. Take NC 109 South about 9 miles to the third "Badin Lake Recreational Area" sign (or something similar, it's the third "park" sign), and turn right (you can't turn left). About 200 yards down, you will turn right again (marked) and follow that dirt road about, oh, I guess about 4 miles, and an unsupervised covered 8 or ten lane 100 yard range will be on your left. It's called something like the "Eagle's Nest Range" or "Thunderbird Range" or something from a Boy Scout manual.

Anyway, there may be one closer to you, but that's the only one I know.

Oh yeah, you'll pass a gas station on your right before you get to the turn off 109.

I believe these directions are correct. If not, the locals at the gas station can help.

Happy Shootin'!

I know exactly how you feel.
When I moved to Greensboro, it was 5 weeks before I found a place to shoot. Pure agony.

I'm a member here www.dprc.org
It's about an hour away from Raleigh. the membership fees are expensive but it is worth it. The are lots of kind and curtious people who shoot there.
If you are interested in shooting some in the near future email me. Always happy to meet other shooters. [email protected]

Here's a couple of places that I've heard good things about:

There's also a new public range in Holly Springs somewhere.

FWIW, "Davi's" and "Personal Defence and Handgun Safety, Inc." are indoor ranges.

I heard something about a Wake County sponsored range facility somewhere off of New Bern Ave.

Seems somewhat of an oxymoron, but if anyone has heard of, let me know.

Off of New Bern?  I haven't heard of that.  The one in Holly Springs is supposed to be sponsored by the county though.  I think it was build for the Sherrif's Dept., but also open to the public during certain hours.

I just finished building my first AR15 a couple of weeks ago and found a secluded cut over to zero the sights.  Not exactly what you'd call a range.  Last week I had an opportunity to speak with an acquaintance LEO in Rocky Mount about another issue and mentioned to him that I needed a range.  He invited me to his range which is the Old Hickory Gun Club in Rocky Mount.  It appears it's not the only Old Hickory in NC and I have no idea how to get there, but the number is 252-977-3231 if you're interested.

Also, see the Meetings and Events board

Call LEO in Raleigh.  I've found them to be very helpful.
