I don't care if it costs me my Man Card or if she's a liberal. Her voice pleases me. Carry on.
*I understand this story isn't cool. |

Natalie Merchant > Cranberries > Christmas....
Somehow it makes sense carry on. |

didnt even know she was a singer
great disappointment at lack of pictures of fucking mammies in here though. |

Love the voice.
THe politics are typical for an entertainer so I really dont lose much sleep over them. The song Candy verybody Wants ought to be the Obamabot national anthem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd4ghQ2dNa8 |

10,000 maniacs was an excellent album. That first one. I rank that right up there with Morrissey's first shit out of The Smith's.

She has a couple of songs I like.
P!nk has a lot more, and she's at least as big of a moonbat. (P!nk would be much more fun in the sack, though. She's insane far beyond just being a liberal... and crazy chicks are best in the sack.) |

She has one of the prettiest, most soothing voices I've heard. Exactly. She doesn't have any range to speak of but the tonal qualities of her voice are great. Soothing is the word you used and I would agree. The live recording of Because The Night is wonderful but her voice cracks - bad - in the build up to the final chorus and it DRIVE ME NUTS! Love the song and her voice in the song but that crack makes me want to stick my head in a microwave. |
|
I can only think of maybe two songs, she sounds good in those though.
Odd accent, strong voice, it works somehow. |
|
I'm with the OP. I enjoy her style. I don't know what she looks like now, but 20 years ago I would have banged the shit out of her. She doesn't have to be a super model to be sexy.
No range? You're a boob. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4pE9-_gL88 |

In My Tribe. good stuff. i guess my man card would suffer if folks knew that during undergrad (1986-1991) i think i saw 10K maniacs at least 25 times. i went to see them everywhere they played on the East Coast, and i can recall them at the Mann Music Center in PhilaPA, on campus at Colgate Univ in Hamilton NY, even the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank NJ (go Clerks!). hold it, let me go find the ticket stubs... ar-jedi |

Guilty. My wife, when I first met her back in college, looked a bit like her
and danced like her, too. I never slipped and called her "Natalie", though I wish she was a libertarian or conservative, though (both wife and Natalie). |

You sir have caught the gay........not just any gay, the new and improved H1N1 Gay......

Glad I don't know anything about her politics. ha I like some of her music as a whole, not that she is a great singer. It's the sound. Willie Nelson can't sing either but his music has a good sound to it and his particular vocal quality adds to it. Just my take.

Grating voice? I think not. Smokey and sexy I think so. I need to re up so i can embed stuff. She's far too nasally to be considered "smoky". You want smoky smooth - try some Aimee Mann or Christie McVeigh. Now THOSE ladies can sing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiR0KxMw_d8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vXiBuBhU5c Amy Mann I'll give you but Fleetwood Mac i wanna stick an icepick in my ears when I hear them, even Stevie Nicks grates my fugging nerves. |

I think NM did it to preserve the song. |

I agree on Stevie Nicks, but Christie McVeigh has a great voice. And as someone else said - also try some Martha Davis if you like smoky: |

Had not heard that in a while... |

A lot of the hippy-dippy 10K Maniacs stuff was really good, and some of her solo work is good. She sometimes tries to be a torch singer, though, and just cannot pull that off. When she tries it she deepens her voice, slows it down, and it comes out as lumbering. She did a passable "Because the Night" with the 10K:
But it seems a bit antiseptic and slight for a song about the intersection of lust and love. It can't compare with Patti Smith: The original Patti Smith version, circa 1977. You can believe in the sickness and lust in this one, though some Springsteen bombast comes through too heavily: |

It is just sort of like looking at a Ferrari that has a giant key scratch down the side - it is the only thing you can focus on. |

I think NM has a softer more feminine thing which I like. I like them both. |

Young FiveO (late 80s) thought of her as the ideal woman. Hip, beautiful, "alternative" and the voice of a goddess...
Older FiveO still likes her voice when singing and to a lesser extent the way she looks while doing it. Sadly what she has to say is enough to make me cringe... My wife who had and has the same music tastes as I calls "Trouble Me" "our song." So, to the OP, I say "Hell yeah!" |

I'd think you'd care if SHE knows it. Or her people.
an OP can interfere with your ability to procure and keep arms. |

Vocal range? about the same as mine, 2 notes. |

I'm hardly a fanboy, but I liked her 10,000 Maniacs stuff and have a couple of CD's from my college days in the late 80's. It's hard for me to get worked up about her politics. Libtard entertainers are mostly harmless, anyway.
