Do you agree?

For the most part
Chicken fried, by The Zac Brown Band is a good newer one. |
Older is definitely better.
The new stuff sounds like pop and most of the the singers are metrosexuals. |
New country, in a word, sucks. It's the most soulless, contrived crap ever created by a record label. I will, however, say that there is a thriving alt- country scene that's full of fantastic artists who keep the heart of country still beating. Guys like Wayne Hancock and Dale Watson are still out there making music that matters.
Lets see:
Johnny Cash vs. Kenny Chesney Don Williams vs. Big & Rich Hank Williams vs. Toby Keith Um, yeah, it was better... |

A: What is..steel guitar.
Q: What is not seen in "new" country music? I liked that twang. |
My mom says that, but I am more of a rock/metal/alternative guy, with the occasional bit of classical thrown in.
I admit that Johnny Cash is pretty damned awesome, though... |
i hate pop country
I'm a big fan of merle, hank jr, conway twitty, etc |
Half the new "country" songs also get played on our local pop stations
There's no money in real country anymore, every singer has to be "crossover" to make the big money. I don't know who's worse though, the pop singers or the yuppie assholes with exaggerated fake twangy accents. |

I grew up on the "old country" . I love it. I love the sound of a fiddle, steel guitar, and banjo. It hurts me to say it, but the days of "good ole country" is about dead. The Waylon, Willie, Hank, George Jones, David Alan Coe aren't "main stream" any more. The only thing new I listen to is Jamey Johnson, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers Band, and Stoney Larue. They are about as close as you'll get to what we know as "country".
New country isn't country it is a little bit country and a little bit market driven analytical crap fused to the remains of what used to be rock and roll.
Old country was real country. You can't compare the likes of Earl Scruggs, Red Sovine, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and the Highwaymen to the country artists of today. |
Old country music is way fucking better.
The new country sounds like fucking shit. Man in Black |

"Yup, Country=Pop. And they both suck."
This. Any era, doesn't matter. "Country" pretty much bites. |

To be fair, saying Johnny Cash is Country is like calling Pink Floyd rock. Neither quite fits, they just are what the are. (in a very good way) |
Rascal Flatts is a glaring example of how shitty 'country' music has gotten.
I agree 100% that older country is better. This new crap that gets turned out is nothing but a bunch of rich guys singing about how great it is to be a redneck. I wonder how many International Harvesters Mr. Craig Morgan has driven? The day Van Stevenson of Blackhawk fame died is the day country music (in general) shuffled of its mortal coil.
I like how some of the new songs are self labeling, all talking about how they are such a redneck when they really live in a 2+mil. house in SoCal.
Guess the people who like them also think 'Larry the Cable Guy' is for real. |
That trend doesn't stop at country music.
It also applies to most rap and definitely Metallica. |

STEVE EARLE! is a flaming libtard fixed it for ya. Yup, doesn't mean "Copperhead Road" or "Devil's Right Hand" aren't good tunes though! |

Subnet has played me some good old country stuff...whats he call it - renegade country?
In return i introduced him to Slim Dusty...Australia greatest country legend. |
Old country as we knew it died with the release of the Urban Cowboy movie.

Do you agree? Uh, HELL yeah. And I'm an aging punk rocker. Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, etc.- all talented songwriters and performers by any standard, brilliant and timeless. Today's "Country" = bullshit pop performed by dumbshits wearing cowboy hats. But REAL Bluegrass (No hippies) and REAL Blues are gone too. |
New mainstream country is CRAP. it is simply pop music with a country feel to sell to the masses who don't like hard rock.
Much like Metal/Rock, there is good country around..but it is not on the radio nor on a major label. Dig around independant artists and you will find good stuff. |

I think the problem with most new music is that we remember the good stuff and forget the crap. Most of say the 60's rock was crap but we don't hear the crap anymore. As a result, people assume the 60's rock was really good, when in fact, most of the stuff was bad. and bump. |
I can stand the older stuff in moderation, but listen to mainly the new stuff.
Older country music is better than todays.
No shit. The fact that hootie has a hit country album tells you how far things have fallen. |

STEVE EARLE! OK Steve Earle is pretty darned good but he still crossed over in the mainstrem with songs like Copperhead Road and Guitar Town. You don't see the likes of the Great Merle Haggard being played on KZBZ 103.9 home of rock and roll now do you? Come to think of it,,,,,,, There are VERY few stations that will play ANY older country nowadays and the new stuff makes me want to drag my fingernails across concrete. |

But REAL Bluegrass (No hippies) and REAL Blues are gone too I think Alison Krauss and Union Station do a pretty good job at bluegrass. |
