I am watching an admitted socialist Congressman speak on the greatness of the new healthcare program (Bernie Sanders). How can an admitted socialits support the constitution??
Can not even put into words how sick I am of the left and ass clowns that litter our Whitehouse and Congress.....
I have had it

I know, I know.
The political class feasts off of people thinking they are getting something 'free' from the government. This model kills off the country and then what are we left with?  Look at Michigan and California for a clue.

They can't.

What's wrong is that people don't care if they support and defend the Constitution.  Well, not enough people, anyway.

A very liberal reading?  Never underestimate the power of imagination

Seriously, most Pols don't think much about our founding documents . . . unless/until they get declared unconstitutional by the courts

Congress has been seduced and paid off by the lobbyists.  That was decades ago.  They're more self-serving than interested in the best interest of the nation.

The people are brain dead.  Start with public education where they children are taught to be wussified.  Add in the lack of critical thinking.  Then throw in the incessant propaganda about the perceived wrongs of our nation.  At the university level, throw in the socialist indoctrination.

Those who can perform, are anaesthetized by the media (TV, movies, radio).

There are some people who are awake, but they are in the minority.

It isn't the lobbyists.  It is the self-serving, for sure.  They have become power-hungry, making themselves de facto royalty.

Yes, hyper-socialism is pushed on the very young by the NEA.  First victim is science education because this enables students to think in a logical, provable manner.

Lobbyists and politicians don't do it just for the money, though the connections sure pay. There are a lot of smart liberals who truly believe that they are doing the morally correct, constitutionally permissible thing; and more than a few of them feel threatened by people who consider what they feel an honest disagreement, to be a reason for violence. It's where the stereotype of conservatives comes from. Socialists are people too.

The current oath was enacted in 1884:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Here's what I think is wrong with the country:

We've lost "local focus".  Everything is about national news.  An interesting street poll would be to ask people who their Congressional representatives are.  I would bet you dollars to donuts that a solid 90% of Americans couldn't tell you who represents them, much less what they voted for.

It's all national news.  Bush this, Obama that.  "Bush ruined the economy, Obama finished it off".  "Obama inherited Bush's problems."

Bull shit.

Bull.

Shit.

Presidents in America have a very limited scope of power.  The real power is in Congress.  Congress makes the laws.  Congress passes the budgets.  Congress makes or breaks the country.  Congress has been in the hands of Democrats since 2006 so as soon as anyone says anything about Obama inheriting anything from Bush, it's time to call "bullshit".  Obama inherited from the Democratic Congress already in power.  We can point fingers at Bush for not vetoing more bullshit but ultimately the blame falls to Congress.

What we need to do to fix the country is bring the focus back to the local level.

Who are YOUR representatives?
What are YOUR representatives voting on?
When does YOUR representative seek re-election and what are you going to do when that time is up?

And we have to get people to vote.  I don't give a shit if you live in some urban Maryland district that's been voting liberal since the day the Mayflower arrived, you need to get your ass out to the polls.  I don't care if the Democrat is going to get 99% of the vote.  Make your vote part of that 1%.  At least make yourself count.

I think social media (Facebook, blogs, forums like this) can potentially be a real help.

Where can I go to learn about my representatives?  Where can I find a local forum to discuss what they're doing?  There's information out there but it's not well organized and I don't even know of a popular place to go to discuss local issues.

We have to get the focus off of the President, because Obama can't do shit without Congress.

We have to bring back the local focus.

We have to get people talking about their representatives in the House and Senate and discussing what they're up to.

If I had a million bucks I'd start a website whose only purpose was to create a central forum that is broken down by State and by District and gives people a place to come talk local politics.  I'd advertise it to kickstart it, provide helpful links (such as VoteSmart.org) to help people get started on information and then encourage them to take their discussion to their district subforum and if it's empty, well, call some people.

My Reps?
Mike Michaud., re-election 2010, voted for cap and trade and the healthcare bill as it came from the house. Socialist, wants be be part of an historic event. Openly admitted the health care bill is not perfect but it is historic.

Olympia Snowe, re-election 2012, voted for cap and trade, recently voted agains the senate version of the healthcare bill. But will vote for it in the end game (traitor)

Susan Collins, re-election 2012, voted for Cap and Trade, recently voted agains the senate version of the healthcare bill. But will vote for it in the end game (traitor)

The left spend a long time and a lot of effort belittling and marginalizing the Constitution. Add to that, their near complete take over of the education system in America, and you have the smoking gun.

In a sense this is true.  Alexis de Tocqueville warned of the risks to democracy in the United States (see ch. 4 of "Democracy in America").

The main risk was that once the people put in power the legitimacy of democratic government, that it would slowly build up a muck of laws that no individual could rise above.  Democracy legitimizes every peciunary (or major) whim of the population and puts them into the force of law.  We are left with a tangled maze of law that compels us in even the most minor actions of life.

The slate needs to be cleared.  This means each of us may have to accept losing some laws that are near and dear to us.  We've heard this figure that 90% of what the government does is unConstitutional.  Or it may be that some of that 90% is Constitutional, but regardless still needs to be purged.

From your link
Those with visible health problems or diseases were sent home or held in the island's hospital facilities for long periods of time. Then they were asked 29 questions including name, occupation, and the amount of money they carried with them. Generally those immigrants who were approved spent from two to five hours at Ellis Island. However more than three thousand would-be immigrants died on Ellis Island while being held in the hospital facilities. Some unskilled workers were rejected outright because they were considered "likely to become a public charge." About 2 percent were denied admission to the U.S. and sent back to their countries of origin for reasons such as chronic contagious disease, criminal background, or insanity.[4] Ellis Island was sometimes known as "The Island of Tears" or "Heartbreak Island"[5] because of those 2% who were not admitted after the long transatlantic voyage.
They threw those standards right out the window

What is wrong is that the political class does not fear the voter. Furthermore, Sanders belives he and his views are morally superior to those of the electorate and those of the constitution.

Without their fear of us, we are powerless to stop them. Sure we can vote them out, but the next politician won't fear us either.
