In the morning when the heater is off I get up and the kitchen tile is always a lot colder than the carpet in the family room just across from the kitchen. I don't think the caret is retaining heat all night from when the heater is hut off at 11pm. If they are both the same temp will the flat tile surface just cause me to lose more heat and the carpet insulates?
I know this will have some really simple answer.

It may not actually be any colder. Carpet is a poor conductor, so the heat from your feet is not as quickly absorbed by the material. Also, with a poor conductor (insulator) you will heat up the area close to your foot, while a better conductor will dissapate your body heat to a larger area (and take away more heat).

What this guy said. simply put, both are the same temp, but tile sucks the heat out of your feet faster. get radiant floor heat. awesome under tile. |
