YAVAPAI COUNTY – A man north of the Valley says he wrestled a bobcat and has the pictures to prove it.

Yavapai County resident James Gruver says he was getting ready to head into town when he heard something growling underneath the trailer on his car.

Gruver says the minute he made eye contact with the bobcat, it pounced.

He explains, “That was when I realized I was in a serious situation.” Gruver says he was, “Holding him with all the strength I had. There was nobody there to help me and it was either me or the cat."

Gruver wound up suffocating and killing the bobcat. He still has several scratches on his arm but says he is just happy he survived.

I've had many conversations over beers whether a man could take a bobcat. they're pretty small, but nasty claws and teeth. looks like I was right, a man can take a bobcat with his bare hands. anything bigger...cougar, I think you'd have to be pretty tough.

I kind of doubt that a bobcat has a realistic chance at killing a healthy adult human.

Bobcats arent really that big,but yeah you would think he would have a bit more damage that ''scratches''.

Confirmed Rabies.

Guy strangled and suffocated the Bobcat. Hands on cats throat and his knee on the cats diaphram looked like a young cat from the news. But none the less he still choked that fecker to death.

A while back in Tucson a golfer clubbed a bobcat (rabid) to death on the fairway after it used the golfers leg as a scratching post.

Also this year a cougar (rabid) grabbed up a little kid along the verde river until his uncle rescued him (shot it)

I wouldn't want to take on a bobcat. Don't care how small it is. I have seen house cats f someone up real bad when they are pissed. Then you figure several more pounds and inches plus being used to hunting and killing it own food. I'm impressed.

It's likely you'd never hear or see the cougar before it
landed with it's jaws either crushing your neck or head. They hunt by
stealth and the biggest males can get up to 175 lbs. and hit a target from a
standing leap 35 ft away with no sound. Their paws are as big as a large man's fist and they can take a person's head off with one swipe. They are automatic aggressive which is to say they will attack anything that moves and gets their attention whether they need to feed or not....much like a house cat goes after a string moving across the floor. A lone mountain biker flying down a path can represent a *target* of opportunity to them....

My wife and I were both volunteer Florida wild
life sighting responders. We investigate when people *think* the
neighbors cat they saw or the dog prints in their yard are Florida
panther/cougar/mountain lion (variations of the same species; depends on
geography), bob cats, bears, etc. We've been to every state park in Florida and between the two of us we've only had actual confirmed sightings of cougars three times although we've seen tracks and scat many times, most in south Florida, (there are less than 120 in Florida today) once in Deland (cat was later found dead on road). Bobcats are considerably more common here but they too are extremely stealthy and avoid humans or any area that smells like human.
As far as this guy being lucky to be alive like the news corrupter, I mean reporter said.....not.

Bobcats *rarely* attack humans especially adults. The largest adult males might
get to 60 lbs, most never get beyond 50, and they are generally afraid of anything "taller" than
themselves. Some of the larger Florida Ferrel cats can do similar damage. I raised one from cradle to grave (Sammy 32 lbs of solid muscle). He was the most loyal friend to the family and would defend his "territory" with unbelievable (insane) ferocity. If I could figure out how to insert an image from my hard drive I'd include a pic....my web server is down since we just moved.

If I were that guy I'd be getting a
rabies shot though or he might end up "not so lucky to be alive". Any scratches or punctures will no doubt become infected so there will be some antibiotics there too...

Bummer all the away around....
