I feel nothing but apathy towards those thick-headed airline security personnel.  Who the heck are they to say that his congressional medal of honor was going to be destroyed!?!

I especially liked the plugins for the NRA and his gun collecting association.  What suprised me was that the reporter did not respond negatively to this information[>:/].  I guess that could mean that the reporter thinks that a ret. WWII general owning guns and being an NRA member is ok, but if that was one of us...  Well, he probably wouldn't have been as nice about it.

Did he get the medal back?

The President of American West should deliver it to him personally.

The reporter must have some kind of military experience.

Any stupid lugnut of a security guard who doesn't know what the Congressional Medal of Honor is, and fails to understand its significance and value, deserves to be stabbed to death with the medal's points!

Anyone who would hire said stupid lugnut of a security guard should be taken out back behind the barn and beaten until ALL the shit falls out of his head.

Whyinthehell can't they hire security guards who have a lick of sense and maybe even a little intelligence?   I've heard that NRA silver bullet keychains are confiscated, but is there anyone here stupid enough to think they have any possible use as a weapon?   I rather doubt it.  

The level of intelligence and sense required to see that such an item poses no danger is pretty easily achieved by a chimpanzee.

Apes as security guards...I sort of like the concept.  It could hardly be worse.

That's an old story, but a good one.

Here's a guy that would probably single-handedly subdue terrorists, then remove the dead pilot from his seat and land the plane.

And he's the guy we hassle.

I'm not too sure.  He made his closing comment very clear that he admired his military experience and thanked him for helping serve our country in one of its times of greatest crisis.  Definately a far cry from a "Thanks, General, now back to Tom back in the studio...".  I don't know what his gun opinions are, but he certainly has a good deal of respect for the people in uniform.  I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Perish the thought!  If I were a guardsman on duty there, I'd take one look at the Medal, inspect it for just a second, hand it back, and salute him as I allowed him to pass without any further wait.  Besides, retired or not, you just don't say "no" to a General!

Place and date: Over Guadalcanal, 9 October to 19 November 1942, 15 and 23 January 1943. Entered service at: South Dakota. Born: 17 April 1 915, Sioux Falls, S. Dak. Citation: For outstanding heroism and courage above and beyond the call of duty as executive officer of Marine Fighting Squadron 121, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, at Guadalcanal. Engaging in almost daily combat with the enemy from 9 October to 19 November 1942, Capt. Foss personally shot down 23 Japanese planes and damaged others so severely that their destruction was extremely probable. In addition, during this period, he successfully led a large number of escort missions, skillfully covering reconnaissance, bombing, and photographic planes as well as surface craft. On 15 January 1943, he added 3 more enemy planes to his already brilliant successes for a record of aerial combat achievement unsurpassed in this war. Boldly searching out an approaching enemy force on 25 January, Capt. Foss led his 8 F-4F Marine planes and 4 Army P-38's into action and, undaunted by tremendously superior numbers, intercepted and struck with such force that 4 Japanese fighters were shot down and the bombers were turned back without releasing a single bomb. The title of the post was meant to be sarcastic.  I'm also Guard and it would have been a real short interview on the part of the airport employee.  Simply ask the employee if they want to make national news and have the day off for certain tomorrow.
