Sorry but i just had to brag. My psychotic ex wife let me have my kids for the week for the first time in 4 years.

I sat down with them last night and we took a firearms safety course and i explained to them how firearms work and what to do if they find one or someone brings one to school. Not only did they pass 100% but they were also 100% serious about the whole thing.

My daughter,13, told after we were done she was glad we did it. With all the reports of school shootings they were scared to death. They are now no longer afraid of guns but do respect them. They also know that it's bad people that cause problems not bad guns.

They already do!! i built my daughter a 10/22 and my son got his first bb gun. I drilled them so much that the first thing he did when i gave it to him was pull the bolt and make sure no BB was in it. [:D]

I agree - depending on the kid of course.  I have drilled my son on gun safety since he was 2, supervised handling at abou 4 or 5, shooting at 6.  Never had a problem with him.  Hand him a firearm, he checks that it is clear - even when he just saw me do it.  A week ago I realised that every time he has ever checked a gun it has been clear so I handed him a Glock 17 with 1 in the chamber.  Handled it perfectly and I have no worries.

My roomies son (4) I wouldn't hand a gun to.  I don't think he has the capability to understand how serious it is.  He had some hearing problems when he was young and is quite a bit behind the learning curve.  If I am around when he is mature enough I would be glad to show him the ropes too though.

Beer Slayer, I hope that after this you get to spend more time with your kids.  I have mine 50% of the time (week on week off) and wouldn't have it any other way - except 100% of course [:)]

I could only hope she'd be with them [:D]
