Here's a sweet little story that is just made for our philosphy - an armed Israeli [u]woman[/u] puts a quick end to a suicide bomber!

An alert customer shot dead a terrorist who tried to set off an explosive device in a supermarket a few minutes ago in Efrat. The town is in Gush Etzion, a block of Jewish communities in Judea, south of Bethlehem.

At least one small explosion did take place, leaving one customer lightly wounded but causing no casualties, said Jerusalem Post reporter Margot Dudkevitch. Nails from one of the explosions littered the floor.

Further tragedy was averted when a [b]woman[/b] shopping in the packed supermarket apparently saw the terrorist trying to set off a second explosion and [b]shot him twice in the head from close range[/b].

A police source told Israel Radio the terrorist apparently intended to detonate a small bomb in the supermarket and then blow himself up with the explosive belt when police forces came to the scene.

The terrorist was a Palestinian who had a permit allowing him to work in Efrat, Israel Radio reported.

Sources in Bethlehem revealed the terrorist was Muhammad Ashimali, 22, from the village Adoha, south of Bethlehem.

The circumstances of the attack are still being investigated.

As Paolo said, The guys with ARs are probably auxilary police for the settlement, or something along those lines. Private gun ownership is actually really (disgustingly) restricted in Israel, and American RKBA organizations are really off sometimes when they point to Israel as an example.

Israel provides many good examples of how guns in the hands of normal folks can stop crimes/terrorism/etc, and that's about it. The guns are almost all issued to people for the performance of their military duties. Since so much of the Israeli populace is involved in a military capacity, many people assume that all those heavily armed people = very little firearms restrictions,

Israeli society is more of a facade of democracy and exhibits alot of socialist/marxist traits (the collectivism of the kibbutz, etc). I don't particularly like many Palestinians, but some of the Israeli Gov't. practices towards Arab citizens and even sometimes Jewish citizens bear little resemblance to anything but the practices of the Third Reich. Most of the americans don't want to recognize that USA were made the same way Israel was made.
American natives were expropriated, christianazed, gettoed in reserves, considered at all effects "2 class" citiziens, and why?
Because settlers wanted their land, the resources that those lands (gold, ore, petroleum, wood, and so on) could offer, so it's again the same model "everything for the money and my way".

About the "old story" of rifle and taxpayer: with all the respects to them, most of the AR used by the settlers are BOUGHT with money collected by US Jews, sent to Israel, where the IDF has the task to ditribute them to the settlers. Anyway, your money is better spent than money of us Europeans. Lets see if I can dispel some of your assumptions.  My Grandmother was a Seminole Indian so that makes me partially a "native American".  My best friend of 40 years is Jewish.  I'll repeat what I said in my original post, I have nothing against Jews. As a Christian I consider myself a "spiritual Jew"

If you look at my post you will see that the comment about money and getting their way was a comment from someone who had spent some time in Israel.

I have always thought that Israel was an obnoxious country.  I understand why the Jews left Europe but I can't understand why they have treated the Arabs like crap.  Of all people they should know what it is like to be brutalized by an unyielding and well funded enemy.  I hope they wake up one day and strike a deal with the Arabs that everyone can live with.  I don't think the Arabs are terrorist.  I think they are more like the patriots in America who fought against the British.

The civic standards of the world vary considerably outside the West. Many Asian, African, Arab & Muslim countries do not consider their women to be inferior in status or rights, only possessing a different status and set of rights. It is WE who consider them to be so.
