You pay a fine and no entry on your driving record, say for photo speed and light tickets, or equipment violations.

Most people I meet could care less about the fine and are worried about their record.

Or the other way around, just goes on your driving record, and no fine?

Depends upon the state and your insurance carrier.

My state - equipment violations are not chargeable by most insurance carriers.  Tickets may be ignored by insurance carriers if you pay a fine and attend and complete traffic schools and the points are erased.

Some are.  My dad got a "no seatbelt" ticket in my town and he said it was treated like a parking ticket.  Pay the fine and that's it.
