Off-duty city officer stabbed, shoots man at county strip club
Police investigating motive for attack against 15-year veteran of department

1:28 p.m. EST, November 5, 2009

An off-duty Baltimore police officer shot a man who stabbed him during an altercation early Thursday outside a strip club in the Dundalk area, according to spokesmen for Baltimore County and city police.

Officers were called shortly after 2 a.m. about a fight at Christina's Female Revue in the 4500 block of North Point Blvd., said Cpl. Mike Hill, a spokesman for the county department. The city officer was leaving as the business closed when a man ran up to him outside the club and stabbed him with a knife in the neck and back, according to Hill. The officer drew a handgun and fired, striking his attacker in the upper body, Hill said.

Both men were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The officer was treated and released Thursday afternoon, and the other man was in serious condition.

The officer, 42, a 15-year veteran of the city force, is part of a specialized gun unit in the Violent Crimes Impact Division, said Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the department. Police did not identify either man.

Detectives were investigating whether the two knew each other, Hill said, and police had yet to determine a motive for the stabbing. It was also unclear whether the officer's attacker had been inside the strip club, according to Hill.

City homicide detectives investigate shootings involving Baltimore officers, and they were assisting county police, according to Guglielmi. Charges were pending the results of the police investigation, Hill said.
