This happened here a little while back... Don't know if it had been posted.

3 guys were thrown out of the boat (23' Contender, I believe) when they hit a swell, and the boat continued toward the inlet by itself.
Another boat picked up the guys out of the water.

The video was taken from a boat that attempted to chase it down, but (wisely) decided there wasn't much they could do but film it.

(All of the YouTube comments from the idiots saying they should have "jumped into the boat" and saved it remind me just how many Darwin Award candidates are out there)

I have taken my boat out this inlet many times.
The video DOES NOT do justice to how jagged, and large those rocks are...I would've expected the boat to smash into pieces  (Contender should use this for a commercial).

Hope that insurance premium is paid up.

I put a deadman switch on my Ranger when I had it, but then in chop I'd wear a harness. Different strokes I guess.

From what I understand... The boat was then TOWED in several miles, still afloat.

Is it bad that I think I would have tried to stop it?  I'm sort of stupid like that.  Hell, I've even stopped a runaway boat with a 5hp motor going before...it was spinning in circles in the marina and I was concerned it would hit a docked boat, so I dove in and grabbed it.  Mine was smaller though, about like this:
