Whether they are criminals, ex criminals, or simply otherwise law abiding citizens who can't legally carry do to location and laws.

I know many people who are otherwise law abiding citizens who carry for self defense either all the time or under certain circumstances. Going into bad areas. Doing jobs which they've had issues with in the past. One is a woman who was raped in high school and has carried ever since. People move from areas they are used to carrying etc.

On top of those people we have the felons that have served there time. They may have enemies, learned things in prison, want to protect themselves or loved ones, or just realize how the world is a little better.

There are then the current thugs and criminals who carry weapons and tools to rape, plunder, murder, assault, etc.

There is also the population that carries folding knives or other tools they think is legal and is clearly not in many areas from blade length, style, less lethal tools being illegal, etc

What % of the population do you think illegally conceal carry weapons? You can vote multiple times. Please only choose 1 selection for a percentage and then either if you know people who illegally conceal or if you do not know anyone who does.

It's tough to tell because concealed means concealed. I do know people who illegally carry and they're not thugs. They're productive members of society who aren't a part of the "good 'ol boy" network.

As for the amount of people who illegally carry, it's more than most people think. That I'm sure of.

Before Colorado cleaned up our laws and became shall-issue, I and several friends decided we'd rather be alive with a concealed carry charge than dead without one.

Thankfully it's not such an issue now

Are we supposed to just guess?

OK, 75%.

I gave some suggestions to be used in your estimate in case some people didn't think of certain things.

I don't here in WI but judging by the way people post in WI HTF, many do.

Here in Illinois it used to be a misdemeanor for illegal carry. That was changed to a felony a few years back. Not worth the risk, just avoid the bad area's.

i have done it in the past. figured the risk of prosecution is worth being alive...

anyhow, it's not really an issue for me anymore, but i can only assume there are a *few* folks out there like me.

20 years ago when I lived in california I carried concealed.

Did it in ohio too.

If I felt the need to carry, no law would stop me.

I have carried concealed for over 30 years, only have had a permit for the last five I would like to think that there are a lot of other people out there that where in the same circumstances that do the same.

In Alabama about 20% have permits to carry legally and 30% carry without permits.  Never had a problem with either.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say at least one person carries illegally.

I have no idea how many.  Wisconsin  has no provision for CCW and nobody I know would ever violate the law for any reason.  During my 20 years as a Private Investegator I always felt safe and protected by local LEOs so I never carried a firearm in violation of the law.  (Cough cough)

Most numbers I've seen put permit holders at or under 1% in legal carry states, I'm sure those that carry illegally are a tiny tiny fraction of that in non-permit states.

I used to live in a no-carry state..I can honestly tell you in my 18 years there I never knew anyone who even thought of carrying. Though it was impossible to drive through Milwaukee without seeing guns everywhere...though they were all on the 'bad guys'

Here in IL, I know of several gun group guys who carry conventionally irrespective of the law.

In percentages, probably less than .001% of the population of otherwise "good guys" are carrying.

Me, I carry within the rules.

about 3% of citizens carry legally in free states and I'd guess about 1/10th of that number would do so no matter what.

Exactly. It doesn't stop the bad guys either. Why can't the no-issue states figure that out?

How many rednecks are their in no issue states?  How many gang bangers, drug cartels, hit-men, and felons carry?  Both questions I don't know.

In California first time conviction of illegal CCW is $50 IIRC.

Violate the car pool lane and you're looking at $500 after fines and court fees.

I'm not even sure what it is in WI.

I know one guy, let's all him "Ricky", who does service work where the cops only go in two car patrols after dark. He keeps a .38 in his tool pail and the local shitheads know it but are not the type to invite the pig into their lives. He does his work and everybody is a happy camper.

I doubt you would get the max though.

I know a few people who used to carry illegally but then the law changed. Now they carry legally. I also know a few people who still carry in places that are not covered by their permits. Myself, I stay legal.
