2. If Sally can paint a house in 4 hours, and John can paint the same house in 6 hour, how long will it take for both of them to paint the house together?
A. 2 hours and 24 minutes
B. 3 hours and 12 minutes
C. 3 hours and 44 minutes
D. 4 hours and 10 minutes
E. 4 hours and 33 minutes
Sally & John are painting the same house.
It takes Sally 4 hours to paint that house. It takes John 6 hours to paint that same house. Lets now divide those numbers by two, if we equally divide the work.
Sallys time is now 2 hours, to Johns 3 hours.
Sally isn't going to sit there when she reaches the halfway point so the work is equal. Therefore, Sally will paint over 50% of the house.
The rate at which she works is faster than John. John would have painted his half in 3 hours, except for the fact that after Sally was finished with her half, she kept working to decrease the amount of time John has to paint.
This gives us the only logical answer in the above bank. 2 Hours and 24 minutes.
