Nov 2, 2009 9:24 am US/Central 13-Year-Old Girl Shot By Father On Interstate
Father Had Fired Gun Into Air On I-80 Near JolietJOLIET, Ill. (CBS) A 13-year-old girl is hospitalized with a gunshot wound Monday morning, after being shot by her own father, Ernesto Reyes, 41, on Interstate 80 near Joliet. State police say Reyes was apparently putting away a gun he'd just fired into the air. Sgt. John Rattigan said the incident occurred at 1:34 a.m. as the vehicle was westbound near the Richards Street exit. "He was a passenger in the backseat and had fired the weapon out the window just prior to the shooting," he said. Reports say one round discharged and struck the girl, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, in the neck. The victim was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. Her condition was unknown. Reyes was arrested and booked into the Will County Jail on a charge of reckless discharge of a firearm. It was not known if he has a valid firearm owner's identification card. Let's hope they find out soon since this will greatly help the situation... |

Wow, if it was New Year's Eve, I could make sense of it. |

Fuck him.
He should go to prison for life just for shooting out the window of a moving car on an interstate. The shot into his daughter should up it to the death penalty. What the hell has this nation come to? I really hope the local authorities prosecute instead of letting him go on some sort of technicality or plea bargain. I guess I'm banned now. -Gator |

WTF was he doing out, at 1:30 in the morning with his 13yr old?

Inconceivable! Everyone knows that carrying a loaded handgun is illegal in Illinois!
Reminds me of the scene from Goodfellas with Tommy shooting the gun after the hijacking.
Dumbass. (Insert Red Foreman picture.) |

Hey, give the guy some credit: at least he didn't shoot the driver of the car like this dumb ass did:
Police: Back-seat passenger shoots driver By T.J. Aulds The Daily News Published November 3, 2009 LA MARQUE — One man was killed and a woman was critically wounded Sunday night when gunfire erupted inside a car on Interstate 45. The man charged in the shooting was riding in the back seat, La Marque police said. Michael Ray Graves, 32, of Texas City, who was driving the Toyota four-door car north on I-45, was shot twice in the head and killed, Interim Police Chief Kirk Jackson said. Amethyst Diane Norwood, 26, of Angleton, who was Graves’ front-seat passenger, was shot once. Kenneth Wayne Henderson, 36, who was in the back seat, suffered a broken arm when the car crashed into a Texas Department of Public Safety traffic camera pole in the 1600 block of I-45 north about 7:45 p.m. Police said the three were having an argument when Henderson pulled a .38-caliber revolver. Henderson was charged with aggravated assault and was to be transferred to the Galveston County Jail on Monday, where he would be held on $250,000 bond. Murder charges were pending the results of forensic tests, Jackson said. Graves was pronounced dead at the scene. Norwood was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch’s John Sealy Hospital, where she was in critical condition in the intensive care unit Monday afternoon, Jackson said. |

Looks like someone I'd ask to babysit my kids while I shot my gun on the hwy at 1 am. |

Not that it makes this story make any more sense, but there is nothing rural about interstate 80 as it goes through Joilet. I couldn't imagine what he was trying to shoot at unless it was another person or car.
And alot a people will argue, on this website, that there should be no classes needed to get a permit to carry. Too many dumb fucks out there that shouldn't have firearms.
He didnt just shoot it in the air right before. We all know he was doing a drive by.

There's a little stretch of houses, but there's also some industrial space and a little lake. As for the dumbass being an illegal, I doubt it. The circuit clerk's computer has traffic cases for him going back several years, he's a local resident. Not definitive, but it's not like he was passing through from Texas or something. |

This happened in Illinois where it is completely illegal to have a loaded firearm in a car and you need to be registered with the state to even own one which this guy probably wasn't according to the article. If anything the incident underscores that no matter how strict a law you pass people will still do stupid or illegal things with a firearm. Do you think if CCW was legal here that this man wouldn't have done this? Do you think he would have cared to pay for the class or jump through the hoops? Do you think if he was a felon already (which he may very well be) that it would have stopped him from getting the gun to do something stupid or evil with? |

Must have been on his way to a family reunion and was just checking his noisemaker for proper operation.

Yeah, LOL.......... even for this guy. 'Cause once you make ol' Esmereldo (or whatever the fuck his name is) show proficiency, you just let the govt up your ass and we're all slaves. Or some shit. |
I was thinking he was a poacher but reading above me, a couple of people posted that it is a pretty dense area?
Yeah, there'd be nothing to poach around there. It's Joliet, you have to go quite a bit farther west before you'd even get to farm fields on either side of the road.
You guys got it all wrong. MORE gun laws and MORE gun control would have prevented this!!!
