Canadians 'distrust' the United States but love Obama according to a new poll. Obama was viewed favorably by 86 percent of the respondents.
Canadians were split as to whether the United States is now "a force for good in the world." Forty-four percent agreed while 46 percent disagreed. So what did we ever do to them? I thought Canada was a friend and that we were allies. Link to article Canadians are no more loving of the United States under its current leadership than during George W. Bush's presidency, suggested a poll published Monday. But they do like President Barack Obama a whole lot more than his predecessor, said the Historica Dominion Institute survey of 1,018 Canadians. Obama was viewed favorably by 86 percent of respondents, compared to only 21 percent for Bush in 2005. "What's striking about these findings is how Canadians have detached their personal view of Barack Obama, whom they quite like and respect, from the United States, which they still view with skepticism, even distrust," said Andrew Cohen, president of the institute. Compared to results of a similar poll taken four years ago, Canadians have a marginally improved view of Americans as individual people, with 71 percent expressing a favorable view in 2009 versus 68 percent in 2005. Fewer Canadians (17 percent versus 24 percent in 1995) also said they felt Canadian and American values are diverging. Canadians were split as to whether the United States is now "a force for good in the world." Forty-four percent agreed while 46 percent disagreed. This question was not asked in 2005. "There really does appear to be a hardy strain of anti-Americanism in Canada," Cohen said. "Almost half of us don't believe America is a force for good in the world, even with Obama as president." |

Well, that's fair.
I generally like most Canadians I meet, but I couldn't stand their government. |

When are we going to stop pretending these people are our allies and deal with them once and for all ?
Canada's motto; "At least we're not Mexico " |

Bullshit. I'm in Canada right now and have been for the last month. They like the U.S. but HATE Obama.

Even if it did accurately show public opinion. The majority of Canadians would not be much different than the majority of Americans who voted Obama into office now would they? |

Am I supposed to care about what Canada thinks?
Cause I'm trying hard to, and failing miserably. |
|
Obama is a socialist currently leading a center right nation. There are simply alot of socialists in Western Europe and Canada that don't like America, but they love the direction that socialists like Obama are taking U.S.

We Americans have no allies anywhere in the world regardless of what polls or any media source says.
I don't care if we were to give some country money, food and clothing, it would be the wrong currency, wrong food, and wrong kind of clothing, yet OUR people would be doing without. Obama only soldifies that image. Personally, I'd like to see how the rest of the world survives without the USA feeding them. Cut the food supply and then see our "friends" come out of the woodwork. Oh, wait- we can't do THAT... the world might not like us... I say let's try it and if they don't like it, too fuckin' bad. |

Canada is a nice place to visit, but it starts to give me the creeps about a day in or so. The French thing really seems odd to me. yes I know history just fine. still seems weird.

Canada is like a bitch, always trying to drag us down into its misery with it. "Come be a socialist too eh! Enjoy our fucked up bacon!"

Urban and suburban canadians want to think they are culturally europeans even though they are far north Minnesotians
|
|
Wonder if they polled the Canadians in Alberta , Saskatchewan, and NWT that hate their government?
There are plenty of fine canadians , however one must remember a significant number of them live in Vancouver and Toronto , both very liberal cities (And we all know , the majority of large cities are quite liberal). |
|
Fuck 'em, they need to worry about their own woeful lack of freedoms and do something about their socialist nanny state.

Good, they can have him and go back to just hating us. I'm ok with that.

I buy my "American" clothes at a store. They are made in India. |
|
They're free to take the fucker and let us get back to the business of distrusting them, too.
|
|
I deal with Canadians all day long, and I think most of have zero respect for America, our laws and who we are. But they are willing to sit and wait for 1-2 hours to come here to shop, eat, go see concerts, use our airports, buy land in Florida, and they come here to stay alive as they use our doctors.

|
Good-then they can keep their inability to drive back in Canada. For some reason, they seem to see no problem with making a right turn from the left turn lane, driving 15 under (hey hockey fan, we use MPH-not KPH) and constantly bitch that we AZ residents are always in a hurry. You'd be in a hurry as well if you actually had anything to do BESIDES fucking up traffic...

As I see it, it is Popular among CITIZENS of other countries to hate the US. Hell, even here, people hate the US. Look at how Obama runs around apologizing for all the world's problems as if it was our fault. That would explain why all these countries just LOVE obama.
As posted, let's just give them all what they want, and tell them to fuck off and keep our shit, and give NO protection. Move to a practice of just bombing the shit out of US threats, and leave. Fuck helping them rebuild. Leave us alone, we leave you alone. Fuck with us, and we fuck you up.... |

Try growing up there. There is nothing more divisive than a language barrier. It's not even enough to speak French, because if you don't speak with the correct accent they'll know you're not French Canadian and will ignore you as if you are speaking English. My inlaws and sister-in-law are biggest POS liberals/socialists and absolutely adore Obama. |

In all fairness, not once did I ever encounter 'Canadian bacon' while growing up in Canada. The first time I had it was in the U.S. and it looks more like ham. Not a big fan either. |

This isn't to surprising considering the fact that Canadians, as a whole, have an identity crisis. Here's some interesting figures from the Dominion Institues' website:
1. June 29, 2009 – Canadian Icons – A new Dominion Institute survey reveals that many Canadians cannot identify ten iconic Canadians, both past and present. 2. December 15, 2008 Survey on Constitutional Crisis - Survey Demonstrates that Canadians Lack Basic Understanding of our Country’s Parliamentary System. 3. July 1, 2008 - Canada Day History Quiz. New Institute history quiz reveals Canadians know more about American history than they do about Canadian history. 4. November 9, 2007 - The Dominion Institute releases 10-Year Benchmark Study. A ten-year benchmark study conducted by Ipsos Reid on behalf of the Dominion Institute finds that 82% of Canadians, 18-24 years old, failed a basic Canadian history exam, the same exam offered to 18-24 years olds in 1997. With each subsequent generation getting dumber, and a proliferation of left leaning news channels on basic television, it's really no suprise that a substantional chunk of my fellow countrymen fall for Obama. |
|
I'll trade them Obama for Isle aux Noix or Fort Chambly. However, this is conditioned that the Canadian Park Service still maintain and interpret those two French & Indian War era forts and they keep the messiah.

In other news, vast numbers of Americans don't give a shit what the canucks think.
