I finally came up with a way to show off some hollowpoints. The woodburning turned out to be harder then I was expecting, and came out so so.

Pretty cool.  Into what medium did you shoot them?  Water?

I bet the wood burning was a pain to complete.  I like the display.

cool, the only thing cooler to do with
hollow points I can think of is pics
of them shoot into ballistic gel side
by side.

I shot them into gallons of water.
The wood started out in pretty bad shape and made it difficult to work with, but I wanted that rustic look.

That UMC expanded really uniformly, interesting.

Sorry, I was thinking it was FMJ. RIF, apparently.

Actually I tried, my roommate reloaded with some XTP and only the jacket expanded, the lead stayed the same. He used the minimum amount of powder, so that could have been the problem.

They really get impressive at about 1000 FPS.  Above 1250 FPS, they are too fragile.  This is in .45 and from a Super.

To my untrained eye, 9mm ball and 9mm TAP look pretty similar.  The ball is just a little more flattened across the top.  Perhaps I should start rethinking my carry ammo?

Edit:I have to comment on the Ranger .45.  That is absolutely nightmarish-looking.

The .45 Ranger is awsome looking. That is one of the nicest
expansion samples I have seen in .45.

Great project. It looks real good. Maybe some darker
wood stain around the frame?

There is no ball ammo in there.
