I will concur with Dr.Rykn0w's diagnoses of lupus, though no doubt the lupus was brought about by an aggravated case of the HIV.

Going through all the other suggested diagnoses, It doesn't appear to be them. I was kind of suspecting eczema but other than when scratching the area and causing redness you would never notice what was going on. I have not tried Hydrocortizone, but it has a drying action.

I get the flaky skin too, but not the burning/itching thing you were talking about. I get that on my hands.
I asked my doc about it a few years back and he told me to put lotion on it. It worked. I now put lotion on the skin daily, cause I don't want it to get the hose again.  |

I'm gonna say lay off the Clotrimazole & Hydrocortizone as this these will just temporarily push the irritant/source back into your system, under your skin. Don't scratch! Check your diet, hydration, etc. Get a humidifyer. Maybe use a less harsh soap/shampoo. Try a mild baby shampoo/body wash (e.g., Johnson's or generic store brand) for a week or so. You need to see a shrink to have your BRAIN checked for asking a serious medical question here.
I have seb. derm. (also psoriasis) and it sounds like that. I wash with Dial liquid soap (gold color) and use 1/2 hydrocortisone 1% and 1/2 Aveda Brand "Hand Relief" (no jokes, assholes) creme mixed after washing. Just a little mixed in my hand. Doctors can't do shit. Worse when the weather changes. Nothing else seems to have ANY effect, good or bad. Good luck. |

Thanks everyone for the input. Slash, I just posted the question to see the reaction. I actually work state public health doing disaster medicine and I really don't like bothering my doc's with crap like that as they get enough of it off the clock anyway.
I was trying to seek other suggestions until I had my annual check up and was going to ask him then. I will turn up the humidifier since it is set a little low right now and it has really flared up in the past few weeks compared to the other months. |

If you actually want to be treated for your specific issue, schedule an appt with a dermatologist. Won't cost you more than $100 out of pocket, probably much less. What's the sense in dicking around? Go see the right man for the job, it's why they're called specialists. |

My serious answer is about having sympathy for you as I have a rare skin condition that flares up a couple of times a year. I use lotion, over the counter cortisone creme, and time to treat.

I hate to interject another serious reply into what otherwise is turning into an entertaining thread. Sounds like what I came down with when I was about 20 (been a long time ago and I can't remember now exactly how old I was). The dermatologist called it infectious dandruff. IIRC he gave me a prescription for some type of lotion.
I ran out of that and started using head & Shoulders shampoo. Switched to Prell Pert shampoo w/dandruff control several years ago and it works fine. |

Aveeno lotion seems to make it go away for a little while. But what really helped was this Rx oil i got from the dermatologist: "Derma-Smoothe/FS." After a few applications it cleared up. It comes back sometimes in random places on my face, but i put the oil on it and it goes away again. On my own I've also discovered that taking a Vitamin B supplement makes it stay away much longer, but this is just my personal experience. eta: I've also switched to the Selenium dandruff shampoo (not the one with Zinc). Head and Shoulders its a dark blue bottle with orange shampoo. There is also selsun blue. Either of these also help with it staying away. Similarly to the above poster, I am 23, so it might just be some kind of age thing. |

mayo clinic has the best medical diagnosis website i've seen. webmd is now a joke- every diagnosis on that sight says "see your doctor". I hate how dependent everyone is these days. It's fucking dry skin, he probably does not need to go drop cash on a doctor when he obviously can't afford insurance, so don't just advise him to see a doctor!!! you can use diaper rash cream at night to help relieve the dry skin. try using a light soap like ivory.

Sounds like symptoms caused by South African Skin Mites. They feed on nerve endings. They are just now spreading into the Northeast. I'm sure yours is just dry skin though. |

I wanted to thank those of you who gave suggestions. I decided to do a little deeper digging and some pharmacological checking so off to Target today. I picked up some Sarna (Pramoxine Hcl) anti itch, Target K/O Aveno lotion, and Psoriasin Gel (Coal Tar) and I immediately felt better. Nine hours later it is still much better than using the anti-fungial. Lets see how it does in a couple days.

My nose/face also has it milder. I just put some moisturizing lotion on my face if it's bad, so it doesn't appear to be have any skin flaking and I look normal. Doctor offered steroids for it, but I'd rather just deal with it without heavy drugs. |

I have psoriasis and wht you have described sounds like how it breaks out on my face and scalp. My derm put me on to a line of cleansers and shampoo called Free and Clear. It has zilch additive or fragrances that will irritate the psoriasis. Its not prescription but you have to go to the pharmacist to get it, or you can go to http://www.psico.com/ and order it.
Its pricey but effective. |

put some selsum blue on it and wash it off maybe an hour or two later. You'll look like a smurf but i bet its gone in about 2 or 3 days. I get the same type thing, but dont know what the doc called it. The selsun blue works better than anything else.
