I signed up for the Marrow Donor Registry today.  Gave them four swabs filled with my DNA.

Now I'm a prisoner of the socialist medical conspiracy.

Don't take any "free vacation" offers.

... Unless you were born with a third kidney and an extra liver... In which case, have a couple of beers for me.

this could work out well for you..   Volunteer that you will train the first 3 clones that come off the line successfully in preparation of the class wars coming.....

Then proceed to set them up with all the booze they can handle... Might as well hand them back in "extremely used" condition to make it easier for us.  :)

I signed up for the marrow donor registry in 1998, and have been fortunate enough to be a match for two different people.  The first one I was a perfect match for, and was able to help him or her (still don't know) with stem cell donation.  The second one, I was nearly perfect, but unfortunately they died before anything could be done.  So good luck to you, you may be able to make a difference.

What are some of the draw backs to marrow donation?

Other than handing your DNA over to whomever, there is the possibility that you will need to contribute 30-40 hours of prep time, and then undergo a surgical procedure in which they stick a large gauge needle into your pelvis and suck out a bunch of marrow (no charge.)

Other than that, there's minimal risk to the donor.
