Ammo in a can that comes with a cool can opener.
Bayonet, sling, oiler, and other weird shit that comes with the rifle. Piss off everyone at the range with your muzzle blast and fireball. Cleaning cosmoline is fun and exciting as you can try a new technique every time. Wallpaper steamer works surprisingly well. |

The history by itself is worth more than $79. Everything else is icing. The only reason they are cheap now is because of excess supply. When they dry up, it will be like Liberators, Webleys, Enfields, etc.. all of which were once dirt cheap.

I have an M44 and a 91-30. The M44 is beyond inaccurate. I can't even hit a full sized paper target at 50 yards after a couple of shots and the barrel warms up. I have NO IDEA where the rounds go, it's that far off. Bayonet out or in, it does not matter.
Of course, proper bedding of the M44, or more specifically, free floating the barrel and getting rid of the bayonet may help a bunch. My guess is that it is so tight in the stock that the warmer barrel expands and warps due to the tight fit. However, I will never know, as I won't likely shoot the thing again. It's simply a decoration at this point. The 91-30 is generally regarded as being fairly accurate. Some even mount a scope on these things and use them for hunting. Not a bad idea. However, the scope mount is a crummy design and is not likely to retain accuracy very well unless it's welded in place. |

Hows the accuracy without a ton of modifications?
I am guessing there are scope mounts/receivers that can be put on as well...so might not make a bad hunting rifle. |

Scope mounts are bit spendy for them. I say leave it as it comes. They will condition your shoulder to take a punishment :) makes my 12 ga seem super friendly. |

Depends on which Mosin we're talking about. An M44 is fun but you cant hit the side of a barn with it, a 91/30 with the right ammo is accurate enough to take down to the range and enjoy, maybe hunt with. A Finnish M39 will blow your mind though it's not exactly the "cheap" Moisin that most people refer too. |

O_P has a good article about corking the stock to put positive pressure on the barrel to prevent some of the whip when it warms up. |

I have two of the 3 band rifles, a 1915 M91 and a 1934 91/30. Both are good plinkers. I occasionally use the 91/30 to hunt with.

There's a LOT of difference between that and the m44 in regards to accuracy, not to mention shootability (aka recoil - the M44's a bit naughty in that dept). |

Mosins make up about 50 percent of my collection. I have some hard to get ones. Straight stocked M39s, M28, a couple M27s, mint Finnish M91(Ibought this off the EE 6 years ago for $65 shipped) and a P26. I bought them mostly because of the history. Mine have fought Germans AND Russians.
The price can't beat. |

I have a 91/30 'ex' sniper with the original weld holes and stock.
Shot at 100 and 200 yards with just irons and cheap surplus ammo and was amazed when I saw how small the groups were. I have since ordered the correct PU mount and an original PU scope. Have been slacking on getting them professionally installed. |
