I haven't been posting any pics since Photopoint went down and am looking for a new place to put my photos.

Anyone have any ideas?  I'd prefer that it be a free host, as I've already had Photopoint steal $20 from me.

I've tried www.webshots.com (IIRC -- I'd have to double check) to post a photo over on my side sling mount thread in GD.  The photo initially worked, but now I only get the dreaded "red X."  I have no idea why this is happening and don't want a site that I have to screw around with.  I'll probably grudgingly pay up to $20 for a reliable system.

TIA

Get a FREE Yahoo/Geocities web site. I have one, just got to find my passwords... I think that they require that any files (i.e. images) stored on their system be linked to a web page in your directory...

On Yahoo, I think you can also have a Yahoo photo album, but I am not sure how all that works...

We weren't talking about you or "some people" - Corey gets webspace on charter.net.

BTW - you can not link to an image on a yahoo/geocities page from another web site like AR15.com  If you don't have their cookie set, all you get are the dreaded Red X.  Your content-free post contains only criticizm and worthless advice.  DUH!

Thanks to all for your replies.

Steel_Rat:

I did reserve a website "name" when I switched over to charter.net from @Home.  Do you know what I need to do to post pictures on it?  That would be the best scenario for me.

Troy:

I do understand the economics of it.  And even this site.  I told my wife I wanted to become a member here because the Avila's have been floating our boat for too long.  And she said that sounds great, but I have to wait til March.  You see, I've negotiated for a few cases of ammo in March, and was going to take the AR15.com membership out of that, but now I get ammo and an AR15.com membership!  [:)]  The photo hosting is just the icing on the cake!  Isn't my wife great?  Geez, you'd think it was Valentine's Day or somethin'....  [:D]

Now, what do you think I can get her?  Hmmm, I could stop at a convenience store on the way back from the Personal Protection Act public hearing and get her a couple'a forties of malt liquor.  [BD]  Doh, maybe I should put a little more thought into this one....

I, too, had paid good money for a PhotoPoint account, only to have their site go Tango Uniform on me... after checking a few different sites, I came across one that kinda reminds me of the OLD PhotoPoint(when it was FREE...). Check it out: http://www.netsnapshot.com/
It's free and they don't limit you on the amount of photos or albums you have. You may have to experiment with what size works best for submissions; it seems that a "normal" image will show up HUGE. I try to keep my images about 6 or 7.5 inches wide... this seems to result in an image that doesn't take forever to load and doesn't go way off the side of the page. Here's a quick sample, quality is reasonable. Jpeg works better than Gif here.

Hope this is of some help...

But you can no longer link to your pictures from another site.  The Result is webshots is no good anymore.  Transfer to another like the hunting one someone posted or Imagestation (where I just moved.)

Bad advice doesn't help.

Actually, if you had merely looked at his email address you would've seen it.  That's where I saw it.

Normally you just need an FTP Client to upload files to your web space on the ISP.  You can either make folders just like you do on disk or even just put them all in your root directory.  The URL will then be a folder off of Charter.net.  For instance, if you had a picture called "ar15.jpg," the the URL would be something like:

http://www.charter.net/~corey.s/ar15.jpg
http://www.charter.net/users/corey.s/ar15.jpg
http://users.charter.net/corey.s/ar15.jpg

etc.  Something like that.  Each ISP does things a little differently.  Then all you have to do is put the little "img" tags around it and the picture will show up here.

If you need an FTP Client, WS-FTP is good.  You can download version 7.04 Pro from Fosi's if you need it.  (Be sure to check out all the other kewl software available there.)

The reason I posted to this thread/miniflamefest [:D] in the first place is I see a lot of messages from members asking about picture hosting.  Everyone complains when a service like Photopoint makes restrictions, charges money, or even just stops all together.  But these same people don't realize that they're already paying for web space with their ISP that has no restrictions, but they don't think to look there first.

So all you have to do is install WS-FTP, then poke around the charter.net support pages and you'll probably find all the info you need to configure the FTP Client with server name, user, and password.  After that, posting files isn't any harder than clicking and dragging icons around with Windows Explorer.

Hey, you've already paid for the web space - might as well use it!!
