I have some issues with this...
I WOULD carry a surgical kit in my BOB, but I cannot afford one, and cannot find a good one.
As Sigman said, I would not want anyone without medical experience working on me either. When I got my wisdom teeth surgically removed, I was allergic to the anesthetic. My eyes were shut and I couldn't move my mouth, but I was coherent, and could feel EVER SINGLE SLICE, PRICK, and GASH! I was SO FUCKING PISSED OFF! One would think I was coherent by squeezing S.O.S. in morse code to the surgeon! The fucking idiot had no idea why I kept grabbing his wrist & squeezing the shit out of him in a pattern... Fucker strapped my arms & legs down & kept going!
However, I would carry a medical/first aid kit with bandages, cleansers, a local anesthetic, a needle & some threads... Stitching a wound shut isn't hard at all, and can even be done without any anesthetics. You just have to learn how to turn pain off. After my "incident" with my wisdom teeth, I can usually "tune out" most pain except the most excruciating back pain. After getting several large lacerations on my back during a boating accident, I wasn't in shock, and wasn't panicing, and I tuned it all out.
The thing that hurt the most was when the doctor injected the anesthetic, which felt like acid burning my flesh off...
I recommend some gauss pads/rolls, and supplies (cleaning, anesthetics, medications, etc.), but don't advertize you have these things, otherwise you'll become the local "Doctor", which is not something you're up to.
Buy a military field manual for field dressing wounds, but DO NOT perform any operation on a large scale problem! If the bullet is still stuck in there, the guy's F'd in my opinion, not worth wasting supplies.
