Background
Went to Atlantic City this weekend for my friend's bachelor party, we stayed at the Trump Taj Mahal hotel & casino.
There were 7 of us, we're all 25-30 year old young professionals, when we went out we all dressed business casual or better... I guess you could call us the preppy-type, figured we'd class it up a bit while out on the town.
So last night (Saturday) we were making our way through some of the casinos on the way to the strip club on the boardwalk (hey, its a bachelor party).  The strip club does a pat down so I had to leave my pocket knife in the hotel room.
In AC, many of the full nude places are BYOB since they can't serve alcohol there, so on the way we bought some.
Well, the strip club was waaaay too crowded to have a decent time (we went Thursday night too which was a lot more enjoyable) so we left, and we took our extra beer back with us to our hotel room.
At by the time we get back to the Taj its ~3am but everywhere around is still bustling with people, so it didn't feel as late.
The Attack
So 2 of my friends ended up getting ahead of the rest of the group (they were the ones holding onto the extra alcohol), they entered the casino on the convention floor level.
They were walking down the convention hallway (pretty much dead at the time) to go back to our rooms and a group of 3 "urban youths" walk up to my friend and hassle him for some beer (remember, this is IN the casino, 1 floor up from the game floor) and he kinda tells the guys "no thanks" and walks away.
They get about 10 feet and one of these "urban youths" throws an empty beer bottle at my friend's head, hitting him square in the back of the head, causing a pretty decent head wound and lots of bleeding.
Apparently while all this went down, a casino employee (wearing a full suit) walked by while this transpired and just kept on walking and didn't do shit (the convention hallways are like 40 feet wide, so someone walking the opposite direction could keep their distance)
Where this happened was close enough to the end of the convention hallway where there was a security guard next to the elevators going to the hotel, my friends run to that area and while my one friend is holding onto the back of his head trying to slow down the bleeding, the other is explaining that they were just attacked by the 3 "urban youths" down the hallway.
Well, the old security guy rounds the corner and yells at the hoodlums, and at first they don't do shit, only after another security guy gets there about 10 seconds later do they start to run to the exit on the front of the casino (we entered from the back via the boardwalk)  
As the rest of us turn the corner, I catch sight of the last "urban youth" jumping down the escalator and out the front door.  (At this time the other 5 of us didn't know what happened since we were back a ways, around a corner.)
The aftermath
So we stand around while the casino security guy calls someone to check out my friend while my other friend who witnessed this tells about 8 people the same story over and over, the casino people check the tapes and tell us "whoops, didn't catch it on video" (my other friend thinks this is a load of shit and they made the tapes disappear because it showed a casino employee witness the attack and do nothing)
So, cops show up, we get a case number, they say without tapes there's not a big chance they'll get caught, and my friend says no to an ambulance but still wants to go to the hospital so he's forced to get a cab on his own dime.
Fast forward 3 hours of waiting in the ER, he gets 2 staples to the back of his head and a a tetanus shot.

Also, on a different note, there are TONS of these guys all over Atlantic City... must be a New Jersey thing (but at least they're just retarded & harmless)

Yes, you only see those douchebags in places like New Jersey.  We don't put up with that faggy shit here in Kentucky.

It could have been Las Vegas East, but they CHOSE to sprinkle casinos in a ghetto and call it a day.

Fuck 'em. Their revenue has been dropping every quarter.

I felt pretty naked walking around without my pistol or at least a decent pocket knife.





Those assholes wouldn't have tried anything if our group wasn't split up, I can't see 3 dumb asses starting something with 7 guys.





And yeah, just a block over from the casinos it gets sketchy real quick.





 

Why did the group split up or was there such a big interval?

I think my first 2 friends were just talking about something and were walking faster, while the other 5 of us were talking about something else.  



There was maybe a 30 second distance between us, but inside the casino there's a bunch of corners so we lost eye contact with them.



 

Ya I was thinking the same thing. Those places have THOUSANDS of cameras EVERYWHERE. You should scout around for cameras and see if one is pointing at the place the incident occurred.

No video outside of the casino floor is very possible.

last time I was there (July 4th weekend) I saw a few of them get into a pretty big fight right in front of my and the woman... promptly grabbed her and tossed her across the street... we watched from a safe distance till the cops were showing up.



AC really is a shithole....

Awesome. I was planning on going to AC this week while I'm stuck here in NJ. I won't be walking around the halls with beer though. AC is such a shit hole, it's probably gotten worse since I graduated from my college that was 20 min away.

I can't speak to AC because I have never been there, but I will tell you that I consider Las Vegas (which I have been to many times) to be one of the most dangerous cities in America from a tourist perspective.

Be careful.

They don't put cameras up to just watch nothing. Unless it is a hallway where there is expensive artwork, path to somewhere important, or there are frequent problems then there is no reason for video surveillance. It is not cost effective nor a good business decision to spend money on a camera and waste video memory on an empty hallway where nothing ever happens. Makes more sense to have either end of the hallway covered so you can see who is coming or going, not what happens down the hallway.
