How can I get my son more interested in shooting?

He used to come with myself & grandpa, but this year doesn't seem as interested  - now 11.

Both myself & grandpa have got reactive targets (metal spinners) for him to shoot at with his .17 (that he bought from grandpa for $5).

His current rifle is a .17 is a pump and he's actually shot my 30-06 once, hitting the 200 yd target. He can hit the same target regularly with his .17.

Since we've gotten the reactive targets, he's not wanted to go shooting.

Andy advice on what I might be doing 'wrong'? Or how I can get him to want to go shooting with us agian?

Think about it.

What did you want to do at eleven?

Me? Hump the shit out of anything that looked like it had tits.

It's nice to see something explode when you pull a trigger.

Try taking him clay shooting, do you have a 12 gauge?

If not I'll let you borrow one of mine for the sake of getting a youngster into it (I see that you're in Ca
).

Target shooting is fun for us guys that are already bit, but tracking and watching a clay blow apart is a thrill, might encourage him a little. Birdshot is easy enough on the shoulder for an 11 year old.

Next time, bring a more interesting gun - something black.

I started shooting at 5.

But dad kept the stuff interesting by taking us hunting.  Dove hunting at 8 and deer at about 9.

Then the black guns.  Not PC anymore but many beer bottles died at our shooting range.

Try some skeet?

I always bring the black guns - always.

I do have a 12 & a 410 that he'd probably like more that the 28" barreled 12.

but... he did just say he likes the more "mature" classmate with big boobs, so maybe I can cut him some slack.

I do agree on reactive targets, which is why myself & grandpa both got the metal spinner targets - but he hasn't wanted to go since March this year.

Well its like anything, don't force him to like it.

If you can afford it, try getting something bigger than a .17. Go out and buy the boy a used .30-30. Then see if that intrigues him.
