My dog just got sprayed by a skunk.  Is there anything better than combining this to get rid of it:

Found here: http://lavplourde.tripod.com/skunk/

1 quart      3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
2 tbsp Dish Detergent.

Thanks.

Was told urine does it. But the dog might get pissed or really freaked of you.

Skunk out, most pet stores have it. The smell returns a little when Fido gets wet, though.

Once you get the stink taken care of... There is a great preventative product to keep it from happening again.

WARNING: Not for the dog... The ATF didn't get this disclaimer.

Peroxide will oxidize the thiols (stinky chemicals in the skunk spray).

Yep were about to see if that works.  Actually my parents are doing that now.  Over at their house for the night and my brothers dog got sprayed.

Rope

Take the dog out in the woods and tie him to a tree for a week or so.  Feed and water him of course.

I've tried a lot of different things but what you posted works the best - by far!!!
My friends Husky took a direct hit on his chest from skunk spray from about 5 feet, he stank to high heaven.
We tried tomato juice, I don't know why people recommend it - it didn't even make a dent, even after four applications, a waste of bloodly mary mix!
We then tried the formula you posted and it worked like a charm, after two applications I could bury my nose in his chest and could only just barely get a hint of skunk.

Try this

Gallon of vinegar
Box of baking soda
Quality Dog Shampoo
Cloths pin

Apply cloths pin to your nose

Apply vinegar and rub baking soda in.
Rinse
Shampoo the dog

This works well. My wife and daughter have both used it

That was what good old George got when she got nailed, which was at least twice per summer. It works awesome and the smell will be gone. In hindsight though, the vinegar is not particularly good for the dogs skin, which can be fairly sensitive, and may cause some burning / irritation if left on too long, though George never complained about it. Tomato juice works not as well and costs $$$. The peroxide method is what I would try next as that is less likely to cause irritation. Needless to say, keep that stuff away from eyes, nose, etc.

WTF?  I can think of better things to shave.

I get in the shower with the dog, lots of soap several times.  When you're done, you smell like skunk too, so the dog doesn't bother you.  Why dogs can't learn to leave them alone is beyond me!  I've never smelled a cat that has been skunked, just dogs.

I tried tomatoes from the garden once, the only thing that did was teach the dog to eat tomatoes!
