where are they currently touring? And why have they not been recognized as one of the greatest bands ever?

I used to have a 45 with "Cities on Flame (with rock and roll)" on it.
Got it from a radio station. Forget what was on the flip side...

That was my introduction to BOC.

They have put out a lot of good rock.

They are playing at the fair in Santa Cruz soon I think

It's a sad day for rock & roll when BOC has to share top billing with Randy the 12" alligator

Big fan. The first record I ever bought was Fire of Unknown Origin because I was an idiot and thought their Heavy Metal was the song from the movie of the same name. Soon realized I'd made a brilliant mistake and memorized that album as only a teenager can.

I saw them a few years ago at a local casino. Buck Dharma played this weird swiss cheese headless guitar. Maybe trying to save his back or maybe just eccentric.

The ONLY song i know from Blue Oyster Cult is "Don't fear the Reaper!' which does get a Honorable mention BTW.

And yet, their "Heavy Metal" (The Black and Silver), was a pretty damn good song.

Always like "Sole Survivor" too.

I couldn't believe that the band responsible for songs like these also recorded "Shooting Shark."  How did that ever get released???

Oh yeah. I quickly forgot about the song I thought I was buying. That screechy opening to Heavy Metal was a revelation. A few seconds of music innoculated me against the onslaught of bland hair metal that was sweeping the airwaves in those days.

One of the few songs that subliminally forces me to turn up the car radio and start singing.  It's freaky, it's like I'm watching myself do it but I have no self control.

I saw them a couple of times in the early 80's at the Agora Ballroom.  At that time they were touring as the "Soft White Underbelly".

During one of the shows, my wife and I were able to get right up next to stage for most of the show.  We were also about three feet away from one of the amps and my ears were still ringing three days later Good Times!

BOC was the warm up band for Joe Walsh on the The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get tour, back in '74.  Second row right-center.
