Anyone ever seen "Cross of Iron"? All this talk about "Enemy at the Gates" got me to thinking about it, It's a Sam Peckinpaw flick, so you know it's good...

I LOVED it. Also try "The Big Red One." Of course, nothing is as manly as two guys doing the Mexican Hat Dance with rifles with bayonets! (Sands of Iwo Jima, for you "uneducated" types. Pure WWII propaganda, but if you take it for what it is, a GREAT John Wayne flick!)

The manliest movie I've seen is the Deer Hunter. When they're not working in steel mills, they're drinking. When they're not drinking, they're hunting. When they're not hunting, they're getting married or with their girlfriends. When they're not with their women, they're fighting a war. When they're not fighting a war, they're playing Russian roulette. I couldn't believe how macho this movie was.

I don't know where they would score on the "manly meter" but some of my favorites are A Bridge to Far, The Guns of Naverone, Force 10 from Naverone, The Big Red One and The Eagle has Landed.

No question that the movies you guys listed are definately in my top 10s...but two of the top 5 would have to be...

1. Platoon
2. Full Metal Jacket

Both movies show a balsy...Full Metal Jacket...and somewhat atmospheric...Platoon...looks at combat situations.

Any movies with the following actors in them: John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagul, and Arnold Schwarzenegger (with the exception of a few).

Some of the movies are horrible, but still manly! [^]

Yea! That was the best two minutes of the movie. I know it only lasted about 10 seconds but that is what a remote with rewind is all about!

"The Dirty Dozen"
This was unanimously voted the No. 1 manliest film of all time. The cast is a giant vat of testosterone. The movie, about 12 death row prisoners who have a chance at being pardoned if they survive a suicide mission in World War II, is the perfect setting for hardened men struggling against authority while bonding with one another and killing a lot of Nazis. There are giant explosions, male bonding, comedy, a rebellious nature and ultimately, "The Dirty Dozen" earning their keep as real men. The cast is like a manhood hall of fame: Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, pro-football great Jim Brown, Donald Sutherland, Telly Savalas and Trini LopezŠ what more do you want in a movie?

The Dirty Dozen is great. Any movie with either John Wayne or Charles Bronson or Lee Marvin is going to be good.

I would add "Von Ryan's Express" to the list along with the Eastwood spagetti westerns, "A Firstful of Dollars", "For a Few Dollars More", and "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly".

ok, here`s what bothers me.....the ever lovin` politico`s, keep bitchin` on gun violence, but it`s perfectly ok to let hollywood (and ole` uncle you know who) generate billions of$ on violent movies/tv!! there`s more violence on screen today than ever. more graphic also. i don`t hear too much bitchin` goin on about that! there was a thread on here last week about seeing a movie, and then buying a gun. it`s been done! some youngins` who are not too damn responsible don`t get any ideas from this do they?... wherever big money is, any type weapon desired CAN BE HAD!!!think on the possibilities!..the damn politicians ought to sit back, enjoy the movies, and LEAVE US THE HELL ALONE!!!.....sorry...had to let it out...[frag]

Not the *most* manly movie (it DOES have Clint Eastwood, and it's WWII), but definately up there in my book of excellent movies, along with Von Ryan's Express. I love randomly selecting from the video store.

Have to agree about Hollywood's hypocrisy, especially blatant in that damned Lethal Weapon 4 piece of crap with all of its anti-gun propoganda and ravingly unsafe gunhandling as an example for the kids. However, as adults we hopefully understand the difference between truth and fiction. Kids need guidance from parents and restrictions in movie theaters. A movie that would be wrong for them to see in a theater is just as wrong for them to see at home after mom & dad rented it.
