There aren't .410 loads made that would be worth a damn compared to literally a fucking vanload of alternative platforms in other calibers.
You'd be better off with a lever gun in .30-30! For $900, get an AK that shoots things that kill things.

You can get triple ought buck (federal i believe). I think a box is like $13 at walmart. They just have 3 balls. My buddy uses it for his home defense.
Or you can get slugs. |

You can get pretty much the same thing from Saiga in 12guage for less money. I paid about $500 for mine and they
can be had for less if you shop hard. No way would I go for a 410 unless there was nothing else around except maybe a .22. Saiga 12 is among the best bang for the buck in home defense hardware, |

I do have some 00 Buck hand loads (4 pellets, .330") that I loaded up for use on a hog that may wander into the kill zone, BUT I wouldn't actively pursue using the .410 for self defense. |

A home defense load is best patterned at the longest possible shot opportunity in your house plus one yard as well as at 25 yards or so. Look for a spread of less than 15", the average width of the human torso at center mass. It is a semi automatic.. the 410 might be suitable for a smaller sized woman that couldnt take the recoil of a 12 gauge after the first shot... |

Imo, I wouldn't use anything weaker than 20ga #3 or #4 buck for home defense.
Eta: 20ga is usually marketed as the lower-recoil alternative to 12ga. |

Mesa Tactical makes one and Knoxx has a couple of designs. |

Instead of this, why not get the much cheaper AR-15 upper that shoots .410. People sell them on the EE for $500-600
No additional background check, and you can resell it when it proves to be useless for self defense and you are done playing with it as a range toy |

The Arsenal is a quality Saiga conversion. Among the best.
Personally, I would never get this in .410, because I see no need for it. My needs may not be the same as yours. If you are horny about the .410 and want to spend the money, get it. If you are horny about the .410 and don't want to spend the money, get a Saiga .410 and convert it yourself. You can do this in one afternoon with a modest collection of tools and a basic understanding of the working of the firearm. Look out for 922(r). Previous posters mentioned the 12 ga. . . The Saiga 12 is simply awesome. Something for you to think about. |

Anecdotal evidence (ie, I have not tried this) indicates that the first plastic-hulled shell will deform from being pressed against the bottom of the bolt. Again, I have not experienced this personally because I haven't tried it. I guess you could use brass for the first shell and plastic thereafter and then leave the mag loaded in the gun. |
