I saw that earlier on the news.  It was a little weird that he got the money from the ins company and he thinks once he fixes it they will try and take it.

Even though they said they would not.

Did anyone understand why he thought that?

Yea, the guy likes this attention and he's milking it, and maybe he's not so rich after all?

I am thinking he used the $16 mill from the insurance company to pay off other debts.

He may not be as rich as he claims.

Because he will be FIXING his 16 MIllion Dollar Boat and KEEPING IT.

Did you not hear the part where the Ins company paid him 16 million for it because he could not get it out of the area?

Well, if he gets it out of the area, he will need to give the 16 Million BACK...

Here's the deal...The insurance company WILL NOT be wanting the boat back...lol...They WILL want the 16 Million back (maybe minus the $250,000 he probably needed to spend to get the boat out.)

That guy was a completely insane dumbass.

As a lawyer I could fix that problem in a few minutes.  A simple written contract that they won't come after the boat.  If they refuse, then you know something is up.

Really, something is not right with this story.

I bet the $16 mill is gone.

I would guess he is already past that point and is just waiting in limbo until they finally sign.

Does he not have a house, or did he always live on the boat?

He was paid for the loss of the boat.  Just like if you total your vehicle and the bank pays you to replace it, they have paid him to replace his boat.

They did not pay him to fix the boat.

Once they paid him for the loss of the boat, the remains of the boat belong to the insurance company.

Had I the millions, I'd be in a small cabin in the mountains.  Nothing extravagant.

You are not going to get a 300 yard precision shot off a boat bobbing up and down in the water.

The mini is fine for ranges a boater would be using it at.

Unless they agreed to an amount where he retains the salvage.  Need more info on the insurance deal

He probably took the money and invested it or sunk it into a company and he's waiting to see a profit before he gives it back.

Not a crazy idea if it pays off.

But wasn't that before the bubble burst? It might take him a while to see profit. He probably has severe losses now.

I don't know anything about the man, just ignorant thoughts on my part.

Maybe he lost it all in the real-estate and market meltdown.

Lots of 'rich' people are actually leveraged to the hilt, and have more loans outstanding than men Pam Anderson has slept with.

This guy lived in 8 houseboats?

8 Houseboats in AquaVillage, where Halmos is living while the Legacy moves.

$1M Amount Halmos is spending to maintain his houseboats and move the Legacy.

$16M Amount Halmos paid for the Legacy, which is 158 feet long, in 1994.
