World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. (WWE), the sports entertainment company behind shows such as “Friday Night SmackDown and RAW,” said Wednesday that Linda McMahon has resigned as its CEO to seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Connecticut Democrat Christopher Dodd.
Linda McMahon, 60, formally announced her candidacy Wednesday morning. She said Washington is “out of control” and Dodd has “lost his way and our trust.” Dodd plans to run for a sixth term next year. WWE has shows such as “Raw” and “Friday Night SmackDown” and pay per views which generate a huge audience and lots of moola. Crazy story lines, scantily clad women (divas) and really buff dudes draw large tv audiences from around the world to watch ‘pro’ wrestlers, well wrestle. They really are athletes ’cause it’s pretty brutal sometimes and just look at the size of them! Oh, back to Linda…
She will limit individual contributions to $100 and won’t accept contributions from political action committees and special interests. “I am going to run a very different campaign,” she said.
McMahon’s GOP rivals Foley and Simmons, meanwhile, had lighthearted responses to her entry in the contest. “When I got into the race I knew it would be a fight, but I didn’t know I’d need to be prepared for smackdowns,” Foley said. Simmons’ spokesman Jim Barnett said his boss would run a “campaign Connecticut can be proud of, no head-butting, eye-gouging or hair-pulling.”
Hat Tipster Eric the Gold says he hopes for this: “I can see the Presidential Ticket in 2020 McMahon/Rock - Laying the Smack Down for America!” Eric the Gold is a big WWE fan and you know who the Rock is don’t you? Former WWE wrestler, movie star, buff dude with cool name…
Keep an eye on Linda!
