I am looking at 3 rifles, all in the venerable .270 Winchester. The three candidates are:
Remington 700 SPS Stainless
Tikka T3 lite Stainless
Weatherby Vanguard Stainless

All 3 are priced comparably, so what say you??

None of the above.

Go with a classic rifle for the .270 Winchester.

Pick a Winchester mod 70 classic or an early model 70 with the Mauser extractor. It must have a wood stock.

Tough choices but all are excellent!!!  I like the Tikka but if you can score a deal on one of the others you still come out a winner.

All three are fine rifles, but IMO, Weatherby is overpriced.  The Tikka will have the slickest bolt.  Both the Remington and the Tikka are fine, accurate rifles.  Buy with confidence.

If you are considering the Weatherby Vanguard you should really give a close look at the Howa.

My recommendation is the Howa/Hogue Stainless.  It is available with a black or a green stock.  Link

I just wasn't happy with the quality control on the last two Remington 700s I had.

Remington Sportsman 78 if you can find one.

It's essentially a more affordable Remington 700 Long Action.

Remington was having quality controll issues a year or so back.   Don't know if they've been ironed out or not.

I would probably get the Tikka out of the three you mentioned.

You stand a better chance of getting an accurate rifle with a Tikka.

I believe if you bought a 6.8 SPC upper it would be .270 caliber. Just as thought.

My T3 Lite Stainless rifle is my FAVORITE rifle in the woods.  I need at least one more (in .243, maybe one in .270)!

Get the Tikka, I have that exact same model and its an awesome rifle and super accurate.

The only suggestion is to get the Tikka T3 with the wood stock, that light model kicks like an SOB.

HUH!?!?

The Weatherby Vanguards usually cost a bit less than the Tikka and the Remington 700.

I have 2 of the 3 choices, so here is my take on it.

-The Remington is one of the most common actions out there, which means upgrades are easy, and if you desire to find a gunsmith to work on it, you won't have any trouble at all.  The triggers vary, but are usually pretty decent.  Mine has an excellent trigger on it.  Accuracy will be anywhere from phenomenal to just okay depending on the individual rifle.

- The Tikka will be the lightest weight, but be the one with the least amount of aftermarket support.  They are smooth, they are accurate, and they have plastic magazines that cost a bunch of money and are hard to find.  Add in your customer support will be through Beretta USA, which doesn't have the best reputation.  And seriously, $68 for a cheap piece of shit plastic magazine!?!!?

- The Vanguard will probably be the least expensive of the three.  Accuracy will usually be better than the 700, but may not quite equal the Tikka.  The rifle will probably be the heaviest of the three, and there really isn't anything you can do about it, it's just a bit heavy.  The trigger will be pretty good, and can be adjusted to be even better.  The action is probably the best of the three, with the built in recoil lug.
