Well, it was pre-election, but there was the time Bush was caught on an open mic calling a reporter an asshole.

I have no problem either with Obama's comment or his reaction to it. I'm quite sure plenty of presidents, from both parties, have made off-the-cuff comments that they relied on the press corp's professionalism to keep out of the news. Off-the-record means just that, it doesn't get reported or published.

Personally, after seeing the video, I question whether that was a slip at all. It's a popular opinion that while may not be presidential to say, he knows people could identify with the line. And by playing it off like he didn't want it to get out, it's like he's trying to make it look like his "regular joe" side just slipped out.

I still think everything this guy does and says is a calculated political action.
