What kind of toxic stuff was inside there?

I had one, but hated it.  I could only figure out how to draw a squiggled mess.

I had one, and saw a mini one for sale at the grocery store tonight, almost bought it for old times sake.

The inside surface of the glass screen is coated with aluminum powder which is then scraped off by a movable stylus.  This powder is highly toxic and has been known to cause children to grow extra fingers.  It can also be refined for use in nuclear weapons.  10,000 etch-a-sketches were found in a bunker in Iraq in 2003.

I wonder what would happen if you shot one with a tracer and created a cloud of very fine aluminum powder the tracer passes through?  Explosion or not?

Sounds like a Box-of-Truth test is in order.

You can draw boobies on one, but they always turn out square and jagged...

Sears catalogue or a little handiwork with a land-o-lakes package are a safer bet.

I don't like it, but I think that's fucking incredible if that was really done on  the etch a sketch.

If you etched away all the sketch, you could see it wasn't magic that made it work.

My younger brother had one that would spontaneously draw pictures by itself. Scary as shit. My parents had the parish priest come over and take it away and then do the holy water thing in our house. My brother is all kinds of fucked up to this day. I believe that he was making the Etch-A-Sketch do what it was doing.

Had all those except Tinker Toys.  I had Lincoln Logs instead.
