That almost looks like a Japanese Carcano. I think they built them under license before the war. I will look for documentation.

ETA: nope not a Carcano. There is a website dedicated to Japanese small arms. You can send them what you know about the rifle and they will try to tell you what it is. I just reformatted my laptop and lost the link.

Japanese type I converted for Nationalist Chinese use during/after WWII. Might be any caliber from 6.5 Japanese to 30-06. The stock carving is the Nationalist Chinese flag.

Might be a Meiji Type 30 (the one before the 38). The "Hook Safety" is the giveaway.
